Overall the cruise was great. The room we were assigned was terrible, but it would have been fine in a different location. The food was so-so. The staff are great.
Embarkation
2 out of 5
I was surprised at how few staff members there were to check us in. On Carnival and Royal Carribean there were dozens, but Princess only had a handful. It was a very slow experience.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
The dining rooms are very well run and the staff is attentive. They all work very hard but seem to enjoy themselves. The food is okay but not outstanding. The buffet has a good selection, though again the food is just okay. They had the best pineapple I've ever tasted and possibly the worst lasagna. The dessert in the buffet was mostly the same, with slight variations. For example, I found there are a dozen different ways to make bread pudding. I found it insulting that you have to pay extra at the specialty restaurants to get good food.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
I've been on ships with less to do, but this was not one of them. There was always at least two things to do at any given time. You definitely needed to plan your day.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
The entertainment was good, ranging from magic to comedy to music. Something for everyone.
Children's Programs
We had no children with us, and on a 15 day cruise I didn't see many other children.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
The staff is excellent, very friendly and attentive. Our room steward, Benil, was friendly and always happy to see us.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
This was possibly the cleanest, best maintained ship I've sailed on.
Cabin / Stateroom
1 out of 5
The room was fine and comfortable, until evening. Then all night long there was noise. If you look at the ship's layout you can see that all of the B600+ interior rooms are directly above, below, and behind noisy crew work areas. If you complain they will do a good job of "looking" for the problem, but the real problem is that these rooms should never have been built. I am sure that they get complaints every cruise. One night we did not get any sleep all night. When you select your stateroom be sure to look at what is above and below you.
Ship tip
Be prepared to watch the cruise directors daily tv show each evening to plan your day. There is lots to do.
We went to see a lava tube which was very cool. The other parts of the excursion were forgettable. Waterfalls are great, but don't pay $100 to see one.
Kauai is beautiful. We paid for an overpriced excursion that loaded us into a 50 passenger bus and drove to boring places. For $20 we could have taken a shuttle to see all that we saw in the bus.
This place could be nice if they wanted it to be, but they don't seem to care. It's a requirement to stop at a foreign port, so this is it. Don't bother to get off the ship.
We got off the ship quickly. The customs process was quick and painless. The mass of humanity at the curb waiting for rides was crazy. Fortunately our Uber driver has been through it before and found us right away.
