Review summary

The boat is in need of a face lift. Old run down. Tile in the steam rooms and Sauna cracked and filthy dirty. The woodwork was in need of varnish. The rooms was terrible carpet and furniture dated from 2003. Toilet had scratches on the bowl. The food was the worst. I met a couple that had been on 28 Princess cruises and that

ship was the worst.the staff in our restaurant was great. The captain was the best.

I believe The Star Princess is due to go into dry dock for a facelift in November 2017. We were on her this past November and saw that she needed some TLC, but we had a great time and it didn't stop us from booking this coming Christmas/New Years, so we hope she gets prettied up before we go. Absolutely love Captain Ravera; hope he's there at Christmas!

We read the same sorts of comments before all our cruises, across cruise lines and ships, and our personal experience was completely different. The only ship we have been on that was as tired as the reviews suggested was the Carnival inspiration (booze cruises out of LA - decor=Vegas in outer space lol) and we still had a good time! We've learned to take reviews at the far ends of the spectrum with a grain of salt. You're going to have a great time!

I'm glad to offer some perspective. some folks have real high expectations or have a bad experience for whatever reason and so you have to take with a grain of salt and do some research. I'm sure you'll have a great time. we are on Star in August to Alaska and can hardly wait...

you can see various and fairly current full ship tour videos on YouTube. many show detailed video of state rooms. just search YouTube for "Star Princess". The ones I've watched look pretty good...

wondering what the date was of your cruise? its difficult to resolve the great variation of opinions of this ship. there are a few like this review but a large majority are the opposite. hard to know what's the reality. ship was renovated in 2011 but don't know to what the extent. on our last and only previous cruise (Celibrity Silhouette) our balcony railing was varnished in mid cruise so I guess this kind of maintenance is on going. perhaps there is ongoing, scheduled maintenance or updating of state rooms and this cruiser just got one that was due... curious!
