Review summary
While hubby and I are seasoned travelers, this trip comprised family members from all over the United States, both young and young-at-heart! Let me say, everyone in our family group had a great time! Always something for everyone to enjoy, not to mention Alaska is pretty awesome by itself! Princess provided excellent service that was cheerful and family friendly. We enjoyed a wide selection of food items from pizza to fine dining in the Crown Grill, all prepared and served with excellence. Exceptionally cheerful and helpful crew in every department. Nice variety in the shore excursions, again something for every age group. Entertainment on board the ship was good and offered a nice variety.
The younger kids club ( age 3+) was ok, not great. The staff person had a very heavy foreign accent and was difficult for our grandchild to understand her. While she smiled, I did not feel comfortable in leaving grandson for any length of time.
We received the all inclusive beverage package as a perk in our booking. I probably would not have purchased it, but since we had it, I sure did enjoy using it for specialty coffees, milk shakes and hard ice cream, occasional glass of wine or beer. Others in our group that had the package, used it to the fullest extent and thoroughly enjoyed it. I am suggesting that you consider a beverage package, as the beverage costs can add up significantly to your bill.
The Star Princess is a nice size ship for me, not too big and not too small. I have sailed her before ( Baltic) and thoroughly enjoyed that experience as well. She is looking a little worn, but I understand she is due for a refurb soon. However, with that said, she is clean and comfortable. We never felt crowded or like we had to wait for anything. The Guest Services desk was amazing. Anything we requested help with, from the request for a soldering iron, to a repair on the rented tux to a small problem with a specialty dining perk were handled with the greatest of ease, cheerfulness and were followed up with a call back making sure all was fine! Incredible service in my book!

Ship tip
If possible, book a balcony, mini-suite, suite cabin while going on an Alaskan cruise. We enjoyed our balcony a large amount of time while on the ship for viewing glaciers, wildlife, etc.
