Sovereign of the Seas

3 Night Bahamas (Port Canaveral Roundtrip)

Sail date: August 15, 2008

Ship: Sovereign of the Seas

Cabin type: Inside

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

The ship was very satisfactory. We were on the Sovereign of the Seas which we found out was the oldest ship in the Royal Carribean fleet. We could definitely see how the ships age in places, however the crew worked very hard to keep her nice and tidy. It was a very comfortable and relaxed atmosphere with very good service.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We enjoyed the food very much. Generous portions and always cooked to order.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The entertainment was wonderful. We caught a couple of the shows while onboard and they were great. We always made it a point to catch the late night entertainment. It was a great way to end our day.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
The staff was on top of just about our every need. Our single complaint was that my neck was hurting the first night of the cruise so on the second night we called house-keeping to ask for some additional pillows. Unfortunately they never showed. Beyond that the staff was very friendly and always willing to help us with any questions or requests we may have.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship was clean and was very well maintained. She showed some aging in places but not in the main public areas where the majority of the guests stayed.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
The stateroom was satisfactory. Nothing good or bad here. They make the rooms extremely small so that you don't spend any time there. They want you out and around on the ship so that you're buying drinks, shopping, gambling and/or touring.

Ports of call

Cococay (Cruise Line's Private Island)

3 out of 5
A small private island, this is where most people went para-sailing, swimming, snorkeling, etc. We rented snorkels for the day but really it was kind of a waste for the price. If you plan ahead and bring your own gear, you'll find it much more enjoyable. One of our masks leaked so we had to stop and come back in to change out masks. By the time we made it back, we really didn't care to go back out. You should know that you have to swim a good ways out before the water clears up enough to see the bottom and enjoy swim.

Nassau, Bahamas

3 out of 5
Nassau was decent for the most part. It had a large straw market (cash only). We walked the streets and stopped into a couple of stores along the way but nothing really caught our eye. We mostly enjoyed just being up on the pool deck of the ship while most people toured the island. Gave us some nice quiet time by the pool.
Don't Miss: Atlantis Hotel

Pros: The food was great as was the entertainment

Cons: My neck was hurting the first night we were onboard so I requested extra pillows. Never received them
