Review summary

This was our first time with Silverseas, and it certainly wont be the last. We were hugely impressed with all aspects of the cruise, with the slight exception of the rather dated nature of the ship (shes 19 years old) and the fact she needs some TLC. There is a complete refit due however which will resolves these issues

Embarkation

2-3 mins at the gangway and stright to our suite. Great Stuff!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Food was usually excellent, we cant recommend the Grill on the pooldeck, where you cook your own steak, shrimp etc on hot stones highly enough. If they didn't have your particular favourite wine, the sommelier always found an excellent second best.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Several lectures and trivia etc events were all great, but this is not a ship for you if you want to ice skate or rock climb... There is however a very decent Gym

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Very good indeed given the size of the ship.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Absolutely superb at every level.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship is a little dated, she was delivered in 2000, and is in need of a little TLC in some areas. We mentioned this, and were told she is in for a $37m refit in October to brng her up to date, so this wont be an issue for much longer.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The suite was a nice size with a full size bathtub, joint basins and a walk-in wardrobe, but as above was a little dated.

Ship tip

Do not miss the Grill on the pooldeck on an evening.

Ports of call

Phuket, Thailand

So much to do here though it is very humid. We took a land organised tour to Phang Nga including James Bond Island and several caves in a manned, guided Kayak which was absolutely Brilliant!

Trincomalee, Sri Lanka

3 out of 5
Not much to see here though we did visit a beautiful Hindu Temple and watched a few overs of a local cricket match.

Colombo, Sri Lanka

5 out of 5
We visited a week before the Easter Sunday atrocities. This is such as shame as Colombo is a beautiful city with wonderful friendly people who have done so much to recover from the conflict some 10 years ago.

Cochin, India

4 out of 5
So many amazing things to see here, but like most of India, a little run down and untidy here and there.

New Mangalore Port, India

4 out of 5
We only visited the shopping areas, but it was still fascinating and a dream if you like haggling!

Mormugao (Goa), India

4 out of 5
Like Cochin, there are so many amazing things to see here, but like most of India, a little run down and untidy here and there.

Mumbai (Bombay), India

5 out of 5
Absolutely astonishing city! So much to see, but very hot indeed!

Disembarkation
