Review summary

This was a trip of a lifetime because of the locations and family heritage. The ports were great and the trip overall was outstanding. We saw some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. We fully agree that Ireland is the "land of 40 shades of green". Absolutely beautiful. We had so much fun on this trip because we were able to go places we've never been, met up with friends from a previous Regent cruise and had a wonderful time with them. We had outstanding food and service throughout most of the trip. Special recognition to Jonahtan in the pool bar! We had the opportunity to visit some great cities. We would go on another Regent Cruise again however we will choose a newer ship and be much more careful to view the details of the suite we choose.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
WE had 1 night in Prime 7, one night in Chartreuse and most other nights in Compass Rose or Sette Mari. The first night in Compass Rose the service was extremely slow, first to be noticed, second long wait for wine and long wait to order and eventually have food delivered. Every other evening dining experience was excellent. Food quality was excellent. It seemed although, the staff was short handed, but the servers were very pleasant.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
The weather was typically cool and windy. We didn't use the athletic options. We spent most happy hours at the pool bar, with an excellent bartender, Jonahtan. We did have massages one day and found the services to be extremely overpriced. We would not do that again on a future cruise.

Entertainment

We did not attend any of the entertainment venues.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
We had excellent service from housekeeping, servers, bartenders, especially, Jonahtan at the pool bar. Our first butler left the ship after the first day, and was replaced with a new one. We didn't meet him until the late afternoon of the second day. We have never had a butler before so were a little unsure what to expect and we didn't really get an orientation that might have set expectations better. For instance, we didn't realize we had to call our Butler and place an order for evening canapes by a certain time in the morning, therefore, we didn't have them on several evenings. We frequently had to call to request things like ice and beer restocking. He eventually started asking us about these things but it took more than half the trip to get into a "rhythm". He was unable to get reservations in any of the specialty restaurants for us. He seemed to be new but was very polite and mostly very responsive. Doubt we would ever do this upgrade again.

Ship Quality

There were times when smells of sewage occurred in various areas of the ship, including in our room. There were stains in the carpet in our room and the decor is "tired". We understand the ship is due for refurbishing in the next few months. It is definitely needed. The housekeeping staff was good. The bathroom was replenished frequently throughout the day and the room was clean. Common areas were all very clean, even though carpet and decor is a bit out of date. Restrooms were maintained very well.

Cabin / Stateroom

Our first cruise with Regent was on the Splendor in a concierge suite. We loved the amount of space and the arrangement with the bed facing the balcony. We were very surprised to find our Penthouse suite on the Voyage was smaller and configured very differently. The bed faced a wall and the space between the foot of the bed and the walls was very tight. The desk held the refrigerator and was across the room from the bar/coffee stand. That meant everytime we wanted to make a drink, we had to squeeze past the bed to get ice and cold drinks from the fridge. Less than convenient. Hopefully that will be changed in the refurbishment. The shower was extremely small and difficult for a larger/taller person. Bed and pillows are the best ever, extremely comfortable.

Ship tip

Wait to book until after its refurbished

Greenwich was very interesting and we had a good time walking around.

Great time and beautiful city. Our excursion for scotch tasting and bagpipe lessons was the one of the best moments of our entire trip. It will never be forgotten. (by us for sure but likely for the 10 others who were with us)

Invergordon (Inverness & Loch Ness), Scotland

This stop was changed to Portree. we misplanned our onboard activities and missed our opportunity to go shore. We didn't realize the departure time was so early in the day. (1:30pm)

Belfast, Northern Ireland

Plan extra time here. Great town with lots to do. We hired a driver to take us from the ship to the hotel in Belfast via a 6 hour tour of the Northern Coast of Ireland. Worth every penny. We went to the Giant's Causeway, which is one of the most spectacular sites in the world. It should not be missed. The scenery and stops we made along the way were outstanding.
