Review summary

This was a great trip. The service was very good in the restaurants and bars. The room steward was great. All of the entertainment was very good. Embarking and disembarking were simple. I like the ship layout except the waste of space that is the internet lounge. It seems they could better use that space.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was super easy. We were on board a half hour before our boarding window opened. A large number of passengers on board were from the prior cruise so that cut down the numbers of embarking passengers but it was totally seamless.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Food was very good on board. Alfredo’s had great pizza as always and we didn’t have to wait for a table. Sabatini’s was good like usual. We really enjoyed the Brazilian steakhouse which is relatively new on board. The beef ribs were excellent as was the bacon wrapped filet mignon. Main dining was good both times we ate there. The prime rib portion size was larger than I usually seem to get on Princess. The buffet was fine for breakfast and can be crowded but I always found a seat. The app allows food ordering and I found a great key lime pie there that I couldn’t find anywhere on board. Really good.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
The game shows and trivia were typical Princess offerings and we enjoyed them. I also was able to play pickleball and shuffleboard on board.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The production shows were very good. I liked them better than the ones on Discovery which is high praise. The comedian Carlos Oscar was good for a cruise ship comedian. There was a very good musical duo playing in the Wheelhouse Bar most nights. I really enjoyed her voice. What I wasn’t thrilled with was Crooners. It was always crowded and most of the time they had a pianist playing but he wasn’t singing. The actual vocalist was only there a couple times. The name Crooners seems to imply someone would be actually crooning

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
This ship had the best service of any Princess ship I have been on. I never waited for more than one person to order at a bar. The items I ordered on the app all arrived quickly. The servers in the bars were all friendly and one remembered my name from day 1. The room steward also did a great job. All the waiters I had were good. Great job all around.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship is in great shape for a 20 year old ship. It looks well maintained and was clean. The decor looks a bit dated as compared to the newer ships but that is expected. I actually think I prefer the Grand class ship as opposed to the larger Royal class. They just don’t seem as crowded but are still plenty big.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Decor is a bit dated but it was clean. The bathroom including shower is still too small on these ships and I am not an abnormally large person so I can’t imagine how some larger people deal with it.

Ship tip

Get there early to the production shows or really anything in the main theatre. Seats fill up early.

Ports of call

Victoria, British Columbia

Pretty enough town. Not a lot to do but seems like a nice place.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Very quick and easy.
