Review summary

7 night Cruise - June 2019 Sapphire Princess Sadly this cruise is memorable but not for the right reasons. We were so looking forward to this cruise, as it was a different itinerary and cruise company compared to others we had been on before. Firstly the positives - our cabin on deck 14 although small was quiet, clean and well looked after and out of the way of main footfall traffic. It was also close to the fab guys at Prego Pizza and the Grill ( burgers/hotdogs etc ) thank goodness as the Horizon buffet was quite frankly a huge let down. It’s Far too small and full of guests wandering around with plates trying to find a spare seat to sit down, it became frustrating to be honest. I found the buffet offered a very poor choice of food ( in my opinion ) and it was not well organised at all, people milling about everywhere - including me getting in other peoples way most of the time! The food selections were randomly placed at times and only the salad bar and dessert areas seemed static so you always knew where to go. The quality was average at best ( again this is only my personal opinion ) We’ve travelled with other cruise companies who seem to cope with the buffet system in a much better way both in terms of quality, accessibility and volume of passengers so it can be done. Just a shame that Princess couldn’t get its act together on this. We never used the main dining rooms or specialty options so I can’t comment on these or the food options available and people may find these would suit them best. There are plenty of options available on board, some free of charge some charging extra. The choice is yours to choose. The ship itself is fine, yes in places it can look a bit tired but then so can I! We found the ship itself ok and loved the outdoor areas, the outdoor cinema was lovely and the staff very helpful. Also the international cafe was very good and the staff there friendly and helpful. We watched a very good band ‘Yeah Beatles’ perform their second set there and they had the crowd singing and dancing along and having a great time. Princess should have them on speed dial, the crowd loved them. Excursions wise we particularly loved the Oslo walk and City Hall tour which had a great guide and was full of information and the guide was very knowledgeable and made it interesting. The Ghent canal tour again was excellent, the guide full of information and hilarious with it, we had a lovely time in Ghent, very pretty place and I would definitely recommend this excursion. Whilst writing this review I’ve tried to pick out the things that people would be interested in knowing and might find useful. Although this was my experience it’s only my opinion so please read other reviews ( as I do when choosing where to go or which company to go with ) and wherever you go I hope you have a great time !

Not our experience of Sapphire or any other Princess ship, instead of getting your food first try finding a table then get your food, we find the food very good and can't wait to board in 3 weeks.

Interesting, you didn't like the buffet and yet you ate there for every meal rather than trying the dining rooms. I would suggest the dining rooms for a much nicer experience.... Princess buffet is the "station" type buffet rather than the "assembly line" type. Which means there are tables or islands of different types of food. So if you only want a salad, you don't need to wait through the long single line of all the foods, you simply go to the salad bar. It's quick if you know what you want like when going back for second serving. If you are not sure what you want, you need to wander around to see the stations. Typically, it seems unorganized the first couple days but is great after that.... But an enjoyable cruise should be so much more than buffet organization.
