Exceeded all our expectations

Sail Date: May 03, 2015

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Balcony

Cabin: 421

Although we have cruised extensively (Seabourn, Silver Sea, Windstar, Paul Gauguin), this was our first river cruise and Uniworld exceeded even our high expectations.  Service, accommodations and food aboard Uniworld's SS Maria Theresa on its inaugural European Jewels cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest were of the highest quality.  Shore excursions enhanced the cruise with knowledgable, experienced tour guides.  Adding to enjoyment of the cruise were opportunities to get to know other passengers who shared similar experiences.  We enthusiastically recommend this cruise to anyone who wants to experience the Rhine, Main and Danube Rivers and the medieval towns and historic cities along their shores.

Ship Quality
Beautiful, luxurious decor
Food and Dining
Wide variety to accommodate all tastes and preferences
Service and Staff
Polite and personable, recalling our names and preferences with ease
Children's Programs N/A
Onboard Activities
Minimal, but appropriate for the passenger mix
Destinations and Excursions
We learned new information at each stop
Cabin / Stateroom
Much smaller than we are accustomed to, but when you see the narrow locks through which the ship must pass you clearly understand they have maximized the usable space within those parameters. Storage is particularly efficient.
Amsterdam, Netherlands
Should spend a day or two before the cruise to experience this amazing city.
Cologne, Germany
Sobering reminder of the past.
Cruise Rhine River
Amazing castles!
Rudesheim, Germany
Do experience Rudensheim Coffee and strudel in one of the local shops.
Frankfurt (Heidelberg), Germany
Do not pass on the Heidelberg tour.
Miltenberg, Germany
Quaint, scenic city.
Wurzburg, Germany
Residenz Palace was amazing.
Cruise Main River
Bamberg, Germany
Lovely city. We were lucky to be there on a Sunday, so we attended mass at the beautiful cathedral.
Nuremberg, Germany
Do not miss the WWII tour
Main/Danube Canal Transit
Locks are amazing.
Regensburg, Germany
Passau, Germany
Beautiful Baroque cathedral and organ concert!
Weissenkirchen, Austria
Don't miss the Melk Abbey and its incredible library ... or the Mozart and Strauss concert at night
Cruise The Wachau Valley
So scenic
Vienna, Austria
Budapest, Hungary
Sad farewell.

Make sure to go to the bow of the ship as you pass through some of the 67 locks between Amsterdam and Budapest to view first-hand these engineering marvels.
