Review summary

My first cruise, from Seward, Alaska through the Inland Passage to Vancouver, B.C.,,accompanied by two friends, turned out to be fun-filled and surprisingly educational. Gourmet food beautifully presented, hospitable crew members, great shows with Broadway veterans, and valuable workshops made the 7-night trip very worthwhile.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Great chef.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Broadway quality singers and dancers. Great master of ceremonies. Enjoyable show put on by the Indonesian crew. I won some Holland America luggage as member of a winning Trivia team.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All crew members greeted us smilingly, whether they were taking care of us or not. Requests for help were always answered. Complementary breakfast brought to our stateroom, chocolates every evening, extra towels shaped cunningly into turkeys, fish and dogs.

Ship Quality

I am elderly with health problems, so the long walks from my stateroom to the many activities was somewhat taxing, but could not be avoided.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
There were three of us sharing the stateroom (the third person had free passage) and the hide-a-bed was not very comfortable. The first couple days, the third person did not seem to be included in some of the amenities, but that was corrected.

Ports of call

Juneau, Alaska

We just missed the release of baby salmon which would have made the Macauley Salmon Hatchery visit more enlightening.
Don't Miss: Mendenhall Glacier

Ketchikan, Alaska

The visit with Tlingit people in their Beaver Clan House was worth every minute.
Don't Miss: Saxman Native Village

Haines, Alaska

The visit to the cannery was disappointing as it was not operating at that time. We just looked at the facility. The Raptor Center was worthwhile.

Pros: Workshops, food and entertainment

Cons: Long walks from our aft stateroom to the elevators
