First, when you board a ship that has just had to be disinfected when asked to wash your hands wash your hands!! The crew is nasty, they charge the wrong cards, you have to tip a rude argumentative person. They preach safety but do not adhere to it 100%. They make the balcony is plunged in darkness at night. Very easy to trip and hurt yourself. The water stations have water all over the floor a very serious slip hazard. Crew members that stand there don't care. I wiped it up many times and was told to leave it. Sorry I do not want to slip and fall. If you want to spend money money money then they "new" princess is for you. They tend to charge you for almost everything. The all inclusive drink is not all inclusive. They want to charge for wine and soda in the cans. (outside of the dining room). The young lady that does the coffee and hot chocolate is wonderful not matter how slammed she is. The pizza has gone down hill as well as the rest of the food. Pictures that they take cost $25.00 a picture. They are not that great. The spa is over priced as are the bingo tickets. I am surprised they don't charge for the shows. As I said in my title the Royal Princess Eeks me thinks not! Never again! I will not address the incident that occurred out of respected for the victim. It also has nothing to do with my review.
Embarkation

Due to the disinfecting we boarded late. Not a problem, I would rather have a germ free ship than one dirty one. The issue was that it was very confusing and before they crew helped you find the correct elevator to get to your cabin. This time one person just said the ones over there aren't as crowded. They didn't take us anywhere near our cabin. We also did not fill out the health questionnaire. We are getting on a ship that had an out break and you don't have us do this. The other items was our luggage went on the ship in the same container. Yet it took four hours longer to get my luggage. Good thing it go there before we had to change for dinner.

Food and Dining

What has happened to the quality of the food on Princess? First lunch at the Horizon Court was the exact same food every single day. Really? How many taco do you think we can eat? The scrambled eggs for breakfast were not cooked. No one eats soupy runny eggs. The bacon was only partially cooked. At the end of the cruise they put up a note that if you wanted crisp bacon you had to request it. Dinning experience - very small portions. Food was not what I am use to as a Princess Platinum member. Is it the Royal or Princess?
Sea View Bar

Great bartenders. They know how to make drinks and cater to their customers. If you must go on the Royal this is the go to bar.
Onboard Activities
1 out of 5
There were very few activities that were not Spa, Casino, art auction or Bingo related. It was spend more money if you want to have fun. Really? Again what is going on? They have reduced the pools on the Royal. There are three total. Two very small ones for everyone and a medium size one for the adults only. So needless to say with over 3400 passengers they were beyond crowded. Not fun! They held the line dancing in the Piazza which is small. It became very dangerous with the number of people that showed up. We tried it twice and after being stepped on, run into, and hit we did not go back. We did do one of the spa specials Not worth it!!!!! I did not get my full treatment since my girl had a coughing fit and had to leave the room. I am glad that she left to get a grip on it but then I should have gotten a discount for the treatments I did not get, or extended my time. The exfoliation was them lightly brushing their fingers over part of our legs and arms. Really??? Then they charged both of the treatment to one card and would not change it. Stay as far away from the Spa as you can. They will rip you off. We signed up for the Royal Tea with Champagne. We were called and told that they were charging my card the night before the Tea. The female crew member was rude from the get go. When the tea was almost over and we saw that others had their Champagne but we didn't we asked her about it. She was very rude and blamed us for her not serving us. She stormed off to what we thought was to get our Champagne. About 5 minutes later she came us to us and said "Do you really want your Champagne?" We said yes and I said you already charged me for it so yes I want what I paid for. She was mad went off again. It took her almost 10 minutes and the tea was wrapping up with people already leaving. Then they charged the wrong card. The two presenter had no clue about tea and had to read off cards the entire time. Was not worth the $20 per person. The wine tasting was nice. The only issue was that they served wines they do not carry on the ship.
Service and Staff

I can not believe how rude the majority of the crew was. Bar tenders did not know how to mix drinks. One in particular argued that a drink I had been having all week was not how to make it. They have a Bellini Bar put have no clue how to make a Bellini. For a good drink go to the Sky View bar they are super nice and know how to make drinks. Even the cruise director was snarky. Waiters argued that a wine was exactly like another one they no longer carry. When you said it it not (brand name) they said yes this one is exactly the same. It might have been similar but it was not exactly the same. Crew that has to serve in the Horizon Court do not like it. I had to get my own juice and water, while crew stood around talking or just walking right on by.
Ship Quality

The ship is pretty much clean but is showing it's age. Our balcony was rusted and varnish missing on the railing. The casino is in the middle of the deck opened to the deck above. So if you have problems with smoke too bad. They also never had a smoke free night in the casino. But then they were catering to the casino Players Club members. The bridge turns off the balcony lights at dark. So dangerous. Why do I need a light on during the day and total darkness at night when I want to enjoy the balcony I paid extra for? Shrinking the number of pools was so not a good idea. One of the wall in our cabin had something splattered on it the whole time was never cleaned and out sliding glass door was was dirty with hand prints that were there when we arrived.
Cabin / Stateroom

The hardest beds I have ever slept on. They were so hard that I could not sleep very well. The dirty wall and window, rusted balcony and chunks of missing varnish didn't make for a great cabin. It gets two because our steward did keep it clean other than above. We did have to ask for more towels and they were like what you get in a motel 6. When we got our robes the steward hid them behind my clothes in the closet.
Ship tip
DON'T. This is the second time I have been on the Royal and it will be the last. Haven't liked it either time.
Ok Port. The shore excursion that we booked for the return to the airport was just so so. We were dropped off at a hotel and a street where it was so early the shops were closed. They pushed a bakery that was open. The river cruise was nice. But they just wanted you to know how much they houses were worth. Some people may like that.
They shop workers will cheat you if you do not pay attention. The shore excursion that we went on was terrible but we booked it through United cruises. Not a princess issue.
Love Aruba. We did a princess shore excursion that was "nice". Small amount of time at the butterfly farm. Less time at the aloe Vera plantation but it was super fast so that they could sell you their product. The rock formation was fun. We booked our second excursion through United and we went wind surfing. It was a 10 star! The instructor was patient and so nice. We really enjoyed it and highly recommend it. They let us go over the time, which we had no idea that it was over time.
Since we were on an excursion it was easy. The only part that marks it down was trying to find your luggage. Can't figure out how you can take two pieces but they are so separated it's like they were picked up at different times. Plus not enough porters for everyone.
This poster reminds me of my 1st wife. I sailed the Royal 2 days after Thanksgiving 2018 it was the final sail before the dry dock in which they replaced the tv’s in the rooms and I believe they were setting up the wrist band technology. I had none of the issues listed in this post. Positives: food was great, Horizon Court and ate at both specialty restaurants. Staff was very friendly and attentive. We drove to the terminal from Central Florida and only took 20 minutes from the time we left the car in the Northport parking garage until we were in our room. The entertainment was best we’ve had on Princess, Kory the piano player at Scooners was awesome as were the pianist and violinist that played in several spots on the ship. The gym is well equipped and I loved having the free driving range net just to keep my swing fine tuned while away. Negatives: the original design of the ship only has 2 sinks at the Horizon entrances and the line backed up, no big deal maybe future ships will make this easier. I was surprised that they had no port lectures, this was my 10th Princess cruise and always enjoyed them. May have been because it was a Western Med cruise and the stops aren’t “historic” enough? Heading out on the Coral Princess next week from L.A to Lauderdale for our first Canal cruise. Two cruises in 30 days, this retirement thing ain’t bad!
The ship is heading into dry dock soon. They are supposed to be replacing all the beds. Rock hard beds sounds awful. I won’t be going into the casino much in July because we’re taking an 11 year old grandchild with us. We’ll watch out for spilled water. Thanks for a candid review.
Wow, sorry you were miserable. The Royal is a newer ship. It was beautiful, food was great and crew were awesome. I do agree that the smoking in the casino is bad and you can smell it before you even enter the casino. I hope to sail on The Royal again.
One thing in the review is correct, when a ship goes to condition NORO VIRUS, they do extra cleaning and that delays boarding. Otherwise, the review reminds me of those fake reviews written by that kid last year, with a lot more words to make it seem more “adult”.
If you are really a Platinum Member than you would know which elevator to use that gets you closest to your cabin. Why would a Platinum Member even leave such a negative review after supporting Princess so often?
