Review summary

The staff was disinterested, rude and unwilling to assist. We had to chase them down to even order drinks, they would not give us directions and yet they expected tips. Their eyes seemed glazed over and unfocused - and thus was across the entire ship. The ship was dirty. The disembarkment for ex Orion’s was chaotic and unorganized.

Staff across the ship were disinterested in helping us or anyone. We had to chase them down to even ask a question or order drinks. When we did catch them, they were rude and unwilling to provide assistance. Staff routinely cut in front of us and were not courteous.

For a neee we ly reburished ship, walks, corners and railings were chipped and not clean. Litter on the carpets, stains on the menus.

Be prepared for half of the passengers to be in wheelchairs and slow to move through. Be aware the staff across the board is not professional or well trained.

We loved the Rotterdam. It was beautiful and the staff were really great. Sorry you didn’t feel the same.

I believe this is a false (fake) review. #1) This is supposed to be a 14-day cruise, THAT IS STILL UNDERWAY! How is it that they reviewed 9-ports they haven’t been to and a disembarkation that hasn’t occurred yet. Sail date June 8, with review date June 10? Big red flag there. #2) The Rotterdam is Holland America’s newest Pinnacle Class ship and their flagship for the line. #3) Holland America has the most 5-Star cleanliness ratings of any other cruise line. #4) To say that half of the passengers are in wheel chairs is by far rude and heartless, and truly shows what this person is made of. #5) I have sailed on Holland America’s ships many times (10+) and have NEVER experienced anything negative with the ship or crew. The crew are always courteous, attentive, very kind, and above all professional. On more than one occasion they have gone out of their way to assist myself and others. Lastly, I have twice sailed on the Rotterdam, and look forward to my next journey onboard her. I can assure you that what this person has commented is not only incorrect, but clearly a childish attempt at getting attention.

My dear this is there newest ship and has not been refurbished. We sailed on this ship three times and have never seen any of the issue you have highlighted. We looked forward to our next cruise on October 12 and I pray we don’t run into you.

I disagree! The Rotterdam is an excellent, pinnacle class ship. And it has the best staff we have ever encountered! Find another cruise line, my dear curmudgeon. And, by the way, I hope you age well and never need a cane or wheelchair.

I have been on this ship 3 times most recently in January. It is my favourite in the HAL fleet. The staff is over the top friendly and helpful as I have found on all HAL ships. Food is top notch music walk is excellent and the ship is pristine.

Not my experience with HAL. But I find that if you treat the staff as servants you will not get good service.
