Review summary

Crossing the Atlantic is our thing. This ship made it a wonderful cross. Food disappointing, pretty much all around, but most so in specialty Dining. Cabin, beverage, dining, customer care desk service was a 10 -- superb, except Specialty Dining -- between 0 & 2 out of 10. Cabin - especially storage & bath just wonderful.

Embarkation

1 out of 5
The WORST. 3+ hours in S FL sun, many unmasked guests crammed into snaking lines & old terminal. 3 problems created the chaos: a CPB agent who singlehandedly stymied smooth process by disallowing set up while employees were switched out & slow disembarkation occurred, changing govt requirements for pre-boarding testing for all, the total inadequacy of terminal facilities & really invisible HAL staff - there was 1 team member at the embarkation process. Highly disappointing.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

Rudi's Sel de Mer

1 out of 5

Aside from the wonderful hostess Genesis, this was really really really disappointing. Lobster tail had no flavor, bread they just laid on the table cloth - same table where the Steward had just set up his laptop, laid out papers, had a meeting before we were seated. Staff continued to meet & bs with each other 12 inches from our table, w their backs to us. No music. The table was ridiculous - seated us in the back by the kitchen, in a fully empty restaurant. This was beyond disappointing. The worst dining experience we have had on any ship. Then I had to untangle a full charge for what was included in our package. We would have had a far better experience at the buffet, or MDR.

The Dining Room

5 out of 5

Great team! From the Steward to our team:. Moko & Tito, they made EVERYTHING wonderful. Phenomenal. Food, eh. Except for last night - NY Strip was tremendous. Calamari when offered was good, fresh. Wonderful salad - we asked for double size, and no bread. We were non MDR people, converted to pro MDR by the dining team. This was a daily highlight. Lovely room as well. Recommend to do the defined time, upstairs. Again, this was new for us, as we were My Time or Buffet people.

Dive-In

5 out of 5

Great food. Good team. The fries were tops.

Explorations Cafe

4 out of 5

Lovely spot. Quiet. Calm. Espresso not worth it. Team didn't know how to make a good one.

Pinnacle Grill

1 out of 5

Arrogant waiter, dirty glass, dirty chair, really mediocre at best food. Not worth our time.

Lido Bar

5 out of 5

The 5 stars are for one wait staff Perez. Superb.

Grand Dutch Cafe

5 out of 5

Absolutely wonderful espresso.

New York Deli & Pizza

5 out of 5

Great team, decent pizza(ask them to crisp it up a little), good breakfast option, particularly on disembarkation morning. Really great little spot. Espresso here not too bad.

Lido Market

4 out of 5

Decent breakfast, great salads, the only free ice cream onboard. Crepes with ice cream made to order - excellent. The pods all seemed pretty redundant. Ate lunch on embarkation & were uninspired to return. Great wait staff, look for Min, in particular.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Music trivia was fun. Good host for this activity. Towel animal fiesta on Lido was amazing. Staff put so much effort into this incredible presentation. Nightly movies on Lido were wonderful. Great choices of films, nice set ups including blankets & popcorn. Memorable. Lido pool was wonderful. Big enough to do some laps. Nice temperature. Cruise Director not visible during most days. Entertainment staff very limited. Performances very limited. Venues were cozy, but small.

Greenhouse Spa & Salon

1 out of 5

Needed to cancel appointment & got pretty serious pushback. They wanted to charge me half when I had tried to cancel night bf, and it was still 8 hours bf.

Guest Services

5 out of 5

Superb. Diane, Christine, the Purser (Kevin), etc. Literally the best service on any ship. Usually not super long lines. Real problem solvers. Superb!

Sea View Pool

1 out of 5

Smoker's pool. Too bad the entire aft was off limits really for nonsmokers.

Lido Pool & whirlpools

3 out of 5

It would be better if deck team opened retractable roof when the sun was out, and closed it when it was cold than what seemed like whenever they got around to it. Whirlpools were tepid. The Lido deck is wonderful however! We enjoyed it immensely.

Fitness Center

1 out of 5

Fitness Center small. Director ran a raffle at embarkation that seemed predetermined. Was really turned off. Not a positive.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Lincoln CTR trio on last night found their cadence. Earlier, seemed to play such heavy down music. Unimpressed with World Stage acts. Music performances very limited.

Lincoln Center Stage

5 out of 5

Awesome concert night bf disembarkation. The trio channelled Freddie Mercury. It was wonderful! Standing room only.

Merabella

1 out of 5

Seemed like another predetermined drawing winner.

Rolling Stone Rock Room

3 out of 5

Good trivia. Limited performance times.

The Shops

3 out of 5

Strange hours. Nice sale last night.

World Stage Theater

5 out of 5

Nice facility. Comfortable. Doesn't feel crowded, but it does fill up.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Cabin Stewards Wayan + were phenomenal. They even found a tiny earing back 2 days after I dropped it. Wait staff in Lido, NY Cafe, and especially MDR were phenomenal. Guest Services are excellent team members. Purser, Matre'D in MDR, the Beverage Manager Shetty, the Deck Manager.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Beautiful ship. Loved our inside cabin. The bathroom was first rate. Really comfortable, easy to get around. Really wonderful ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
First class. Our little inside cabin was cozy, comfortable, with great storage. We had a lot of luggage bc we wrapped other travel and shopping around the cruise. Big bags fit effortlessly under the bed. The bathroom is tops.

Ship tip

Enjoy the staff in the Lido Buffet, they are top shelf. Do go to MDR for scheduled dining & get to know your wonderful wait staff. Do enjoy the movies poolside. Skip the Pinnacle & Sal de Mer. Avoid the Sea Safari excursion unless you are a diver bc the conditions will be beyond your experience - completely unpleasant. The ship is lovely. Enjoy! Very nice cruise even with some bumps.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

1 out of 5
Old inadequate terminal. It makes MIA highly preferable. The port has no real beauty, either. CPB were power tripping instead of working in partnership with the line. We always stay in Ft Lauderdale, but next time will look to use MIA. For us, that's a big sacrifice of convenience. But this facility is just so poor, it contributed to utter chaos and an absurd wait for embarkation.

Horta, Azores

5 out of 5
Can do walking tours, self tour, jeep tours very easy off the tender.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

5 out of 5
What a city! Beautiful! Walking right off the ship, the train is reachable in 10 minutes. Love this place.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
The best disembarkation experience on any ship including luxury line experience.

Appreciate your feedback. Sorry you had so many issues. Sometimes experienced cruisers are more critical of the flaws than others.
