Review summary

We traveled as a couple, and were joined by some of our family on the trip. We are 35-40 and our family was 50+. This ship is clearly geared for older crowd, and we'll be researching Royal Caribbean and Disney Cruise Line for any future trips. We'll keep Holland America in mind for a future Alaska cruise.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Quick and efficient with the use of the VeriFLY app.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food and drink is good, but there's room for improvement. Service is good, but the staff does seem like it's still learning the menu and systems.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
There's not much to do besides eating, drinking, games and lounging if you're not going to the Music Walk or World Stage. The ship is clearly geared to a retired crowd.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The ships dancers were very good, as were the musicians in BB King's Blues Club. The World Stage productions: 2 are great, 2 are lacking, and the problems are all in the stage production, not the performers.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Good staff, but room for improvement in the dining venues.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Excellent interior design and layout of the ship, the true highlight of the 7th gen Rotterdam

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5

Ports of call

Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (Private Island)

4 out of 5
Pictures/YouTube of this island don't do it justice, the sand and water is amazing. The food is not good, so wait till you're back on board to have a late lunch.

George Town, Grand Cayman

3 out of 5
Meh, since we didn't bring our suitcase of money and don't want a scuba/water/snorkel adventure, I don't see the attraction to Gran Cayman

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

2 out of 5
Avoid the Bamboo Beach Club Upgraded Experience

Key West, Florida

4 out of 5
Great tourist town to explore on foot

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Very easy self-assist departure at the time of our choosing.

Agree, Holland is noted for being an older crowd. Glad you enjoyed your cruise in spite of the that. Appreciate your feedback.

Yes, Holland America is geared towards an older crowd which we are so we loved it. We've only been on the Nieuw Amsterdam but it was fantastic. Beautiful ship, delicious food and the best cabin steward ever. Also, the staff in the buffet was the most friendly I've ever seen. Always smiling and asking if we needed anything. Our ports were fantastic. The only complaint I have, I wasn't crazy about the shows and not much to do at night. My brother and his wife were with us so we played alot of Phase 10. A great card game. If anyone is planning to go on Holland, make sure to try the Dive-In. They have hamburgers, hotdogs and French fries. All good, but the burgers are the best we've ever had. Better than Guy's.

Thanks for the review. Holland America is not known for their entertainment and is primarily about the itineraries that other mainstream cruise lines don’t always offer.
