Review summary

Having only cruised 3 times this was the best cruise we took. We met many fun loving people on the ship at the Crows Nest, shared dining table with others during dinner and met folks on the excursions. This is a mid-size ship 1400 guests so it never seemed crowded. We read that only "old" people cruise on HAL. This was not true on this cruise although it was during spring break. We met families and older people but also teenagers. This was not a party ship like some on Carnival can be. Not being derogratory about Carnival as we have had fun crusies with them. HAL felt like a step above although not as stimulating. Did not like the port of Costa Maya and next time would take a tour of Roatan Island. Overall an excellent cruise.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Dining room was excellent, wait staff prompt and courteous. We only at the Lido buffet once but it was also very good.

Onboard Activities

This is not Carnival or a ship with continuous stimulation. There was a great act on the main stage, pianist at one of the lounges, music every night in the Crows Nest with a fun group of people. My partner and I participated in the Pub Crawl and had a blast, met some fun people! Comedian show was really funny at the main stage.

Service and Staff

We had room service every morning for breakfast and this was one of my highlights. Its great to have coffee served in the room to start the day off as most days we had early excursions. Room stewards were excellent and catered to our every need. Jeremy who led the pub crawl was creative and engaged everyone who attended.

Ship Quality

Mid size ship and was easy to get around. Spotless!

Cabin / Stateroom

The room was slightly larger than Carnivals balcony rooms. Room was spotless! Lacking electrical outlets and none in the bathroom. Not sure if others have outlets in the bathroom due to safety?

Ship tip

Ask at the Lido deck about the Pub Crawl this was one of the highlights of the trip.

Ports of call

Tampa, Florida

No excursion but walked around the boardwalk by the river and had dinner downtown before we departed on Sunday

Key West, Florida

Hemingway House tour and Truman's White House. We really enjoyed Hemingway's home tour, the tour guide was excellent. I would not recommend the ships excursion for $89 you can walk from the ship there or take a cab. Truman White was nice but not as fun as Hemingway;s.

Santo Tomas De Castilla, Guatemala

Went on a boat ride to Livingston then up the river to the school. Nice trip

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

Did a snorkling excursion and it was wonderful

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

Cruise ship shopping port. Let's keep all the cruiser's money. Do an excursion otherwise all there is is shopping and a pool. We went on a ruins tour and enjoyed it. Dissapointed that we never saw many towns on the way.

Disembarkation

Seemless! Took the late disembarkation as our plane did not leave until late afternoon. Had breakfast in the room!
