Review summary

This was a short get away from the cold weather. The choice of this itinerary was because we wanted to see some cultural sites and did not care about beach and bar visits like the cruises to the islands. We would certainly consider this one again. The ease and laid back relaxation is what we have come to expect and appreciate from Holland America.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
All went very smoothly

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We have always liked the Holland America food. Caneletto was terrific!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
WE prefer quiet time, so this cruise was perfect for us. No loud pool parties, etc

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The choice of entertainment was below what we have come to expect from HAL. The comedian was great, other than that it was rather bland.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Always pleasant and cooperative.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship is a little old, and [probably close to needing a retrofit. Curtains in the cross nest bar were obviously inoperative and some sagged off their allignments. This should really be corrected. No excuse for sloppy cosmetic items.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Our cabin was generally well appointed and clean. We did have a problem with the air conditioning. The room temp would not get below 23.5 degrees Celsius. Seemed that maintenance was not able to fix this. They did give us a fan and provided some financial compensation which was very nice. My concern is that I wonder if the captain knew about this? Would he have been satisfied with a response from his maintenance crew that they could not do anything?

Ship tip

Relax and enjoy the trip. We love the midsized ships and love the level of service and accommodations on HAL.

Ports of call

Tampa, Florida

5 out of 5

Key West, Florida

3 out of 5
We have been to Key West many times and find it too full of tourists and bars.

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

4 out of 5
Not much here unless you go snorkeling, etc

Santo Tomas De Castilla, Guatemala

5 out of 5
Good cultural excursions. But they are a long bus ride from the cruise port. Worth the long ride. You get to see a lot of the countryside and local shops along the roadways.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
Great cultural excursions to the Mayan ruins. We have an exceptional guide. One of the best we have ever had anywhere!

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
All went smoothly. We had a transfer to the airport. All went well except the disembarkation time meant we had to sit on the bus. They did not seem to align the time for disembarking with the filling of the bus. Not fun to sit on a bus for half an hour.
