Review summary

No matter what ports you visit, service and details are what make or break the cruise experience.  I have travelled on multiple cruise lines and enjoyed most of them, but the Rotterdam was a cut above.  I especially enjoyed this Holland cruise because the cruise staff was service-oriented, very professional while being friendly, and thankfully kept announcements to a minimum.  You learn to appreciate these things after being on a ship with a staff that is unhappy and taking it out on the customers or being stuck on a ship with a talkative person in charge of the overhead microphone...you can't tune them out.  Thank you, Rotterdam, and Holland cruise lines for a perfectly enjoyable cruising experience.

Enjoyed walking along the shore line walkway extending from the tender dock to the north and east, then cut back into town and enjoyed shopping and lunch. Relaxing jaunt into a beautiful town. Then toured Acadia National Park in the afternoon on a 14-passenger van, which was a real treat.

Halifax, Nova Scotia Did not visit port

We rented a car and drove over to the Ovens, which are sea caves on the opposite side of the shore from Lunensberg. It was definitely one of the highlights of the sites we saw on this trip. We also took the little ferry near there over to the bakery for lunch.

Sydney, Nova Scotia Did not visit port

We rented a car at this port and drove over to the Alexander Graham Bell museum, which is worth visiting, and to Baddeck, which was my favorite part of this island. The drive over there was really beautiful.

Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island Did not visit port

The Butterfly House and Gardens were closed during our trip in mid-September, but we enjoyed the Preserve right next door to it. PEI is an interesting cross between golf courses and agricultural areas.

Quebec City, Quebec Did not visit port

We rode the Funiculaire, walked inside and outside the Frontenac Hotel, shopped along the old streets near the Frontenac and below at the base of the Funiculaire, walked along the ramparts of the old wall, and enjoyed lunch at Parmesan Italian Restaurant next to the Ancienn Canadian Restaurant in the city's oldest house or building.
