Radiance of the Seas

7 Night Alaska Hubbard Glacier Northbound (Vancouver To Seward)

Sail date: August 24, 2018

Review summary

We took this cruise over a year ago so things may have changed since. Alaska was incredible and I’d love to go back soon. Radiance was great for Alaska as you can see outside from everywhere on the ship. The MDR was awful so plan to either eat in the buffet which was the best of all our cruises so far or purchase a specialty restaurant package.

Embarkation

Took about 90minutes.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
I love that they have a middle tier drink option covering water, soda and premium coffees. We dined in the MDR once for dinner and once for breakfast. Service and food in MDR was awful.

Giovanni's Table

3 out of 5

Food was okay, like the other restaurants there was confusion with our dining package.

Windjammer Marketplace

5 out of 5

Great selection which varied each day. Breakfast quality was a bit iffy but lunch and dinner options were excellent.

Cascades Dining Room

1 out of 5

Food was awful. Server was really nice but had way too many tables and no help from assistants.

Cafe' Latte-Tudes

5 out of 5

Loved the lattes here and very friendly staff.

Samba Grill

5 out of 5

Done many of these on land and also other cruise lines. I love that they ask how you like meat cooked and bring out accordingly.

Izumi Japanese Cuisine

5 out of 5

Food and service here was excellent. Went twice.

Chop's Grille

5 out of 5

Had some service issues but food is up there with top steakhouses we have dinned at across NA.

Onboard Activities

Entertainment

2 out of 5
Probably geared more to older cruisers? We were often board. Also didn’t appreciate the constant putdowns of those who cruise Carnival by the CD and comedian. It seemed to get lots of laughs from the crowd but we found Carnival was better in nearly every way.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Staff was very friendly. Seemed they had computer issues as they kept thinking our dinning package was used up and then gave us free drinks each night for the hassle.

Ship Quality

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Room steward was awesome also greeted us by name and would open our cabin door if he saw us coming.

Ship tip

Get the dinning package. MDR at least when we sailed a year ago was terrible.
