Review summary

Wasn't really sure what to expect after reading some less than stellar reviews. We ended up having the most fabulous time! Everyone was so nice and helped make our cruise extra special. Maybe it helps that we're very laid back and just looking to have a fun time. We would definitely go again if we're able.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We arrived early, around 10am for a 10:30 boarding time. We didn't actually board until noon. The process was very smooth and quick. Not much of a line. We did have The Key package which was definitely an advantage.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Drinks were great! Bartenders we're so nice. In some reviews I read, people complained of difficulty getting service, but we honestly had no issues at all. Even at the pool, servers were regularly asking if we needed drinks. The food in the Windjammer was really good; so many options. It was always busy but we were able to find seats. We never ate in the formal dining room so I can't speak to that. Great burgers and fries at Harp & Horn (although, did not care for their chicken wings or nachos). Silks and Jamie's were also both great. The free pizza at Sorrento's was yummy later in the evening! I recommend buying the Deluxe Beverage Package online if you plan to drink more than 5 drinks a day. You can purchase online and keep watching for the price to drop. You can cancel and repurchase at the lower price. I got it for $48 a day per person. Definitely worth it for us! It's much more expensive if you wait to buy it on the ship. The deluxe beverage package also covered the small cappicinos we ordered from room service to enjoy on our balcony every morning. They do charge you for the large specialty coffees so I advise to order a couple smalls instead. :)

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Lots to do onboard. We especially enjoyed the pool (and pool bar of course!). We never had an issue getting lounge chairs. We brought our own pool towels, which seemed easier than the process they have to checkout pool towels onboard. We loved the fun themed nights they had in 270. We also had fun later at night dancing at the Music Hall. Also enjoyed playing blackjack in the casino. Never a dull moment!

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We loved the shows!! Just a disclaimer...we love shows and theater in general. We saw a show every night. Starwater was our favorite! You need reservations to see Starwater (easiest to do online before the cruise). We also enjoyed other shows like Sonic and Aussie Boys. The magician did basic magic, but still entertaiming. The performer in Harp & Horn was amazing. The DJs and live bands were super fun in Music Hall. SO much talent on that ship!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everyone was incredibly nice and helpful. Absolutely no complaints.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Everything was very clean and well maintained. I appreciated that they mandated hand-washimg prior to going into Windjammer. The ship was beautiful!

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our room was so spacious! We were notified via email of our eligibility to bid on an upgraded room. I put a low bid of $20 (per person) for a Spacious Ocean View Balcony stateroom. Four days before our cruise we got an email that our bid had been accepted. So for a total of $40 we got an amazing room with a balcony. So worth it!! We ordered cappicinos and muffins every morning to enjoy on the balcony before we started each day. Our cabin steward, Rusli, made our stay extra special with all his personal touches.

Ship tip

Book the extras online beforehand if you're able. Booking packages online is much more affordable than waiting until you board. Make reservations to see the Starwater show online beforehand as well. It can be difficult to get in to that show if you wait.

Ports of call

Singapore

5 out of 5
We enjoyed Gardens By The Bay. We also stayed one night at the Equarious Resort on Sentosa Island. So much to do there! We did not do any RCCL excursions. We used our cab drivers as a source to tell us what's great to experience in Singapore.

Phuket, Thailand

5 out of 5
Had the best time here eating at local places, shopping, bar hopping. Money exchange places all over the place so it's very easy to exchange your currency. Such a beautiful place!

Penang (Pulau Pinang), Malaysia

5 out of 5
Loved this port. Lots of history. We ate at Holy Guacamole for lunch. Very yummy Mexican food.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We had purchased the Key package, which was a huge benefit upon disembarkation. We had waited until the last possible moment to get off the ship and there was a long line by then. But since we had the Key, they escorted us past the long line and right off the ship.

Mostly, it's what you make it

Ate plenty of Chinese, Malay, and Indian food for the two weeks we were travelling. Happened to come across the fun Mexican place that had been recommended to us by some locals. There's also a lot more to the story that led us to that place. :)

A bit amazed that you didn't eat Chinese, Malay or Indian food in Penang or a Mela ge of all those cuisines and rather had Mexican which you can presumably find in many locations where you live. Think you missed a great opportunity to widen your food horizons.
