Review summary

This was our first cruise and my husband and I loved it. Our biggest problem is that we planned a shore excursion for most days and had reservations for dinner the first few nights which meant that we were constantly having to be somewhere. There is something to be said for a day at sea to relax. Aside from that our room was great and Paul took care of us every day and we always got animal towels. We learned on day one to go to the buffet and get breakfast and eat it on our balcony every day. We really enjoyed Cagney's Steak House and the Japanese Steak House. But we also liked each of the other restaurants. Our favorite shore excursions were zipling Maui and the helicopter ride in Kauai. I would recommend this POH cruise soon because at the end of January this ship will be moved to Europe. The ship was always clean and the staff were friendly and I would recommend this ship. The price for clothes in the gift shop was outrageous but I would imagine that is the same for all ships.

We rented a car the first day and drove all over the island (that we were allowed in the rental car). We heard several people who loved the road to Hana but if you decide to do it give yourself a lot of time. We hear it took some people 8 hours to get down in the morning and the seven pools just past Hana was closed. It took us a total of 4 hours and it was dark and raining on the way back - not fun. It is fun the first hour but then it gets old with all the winding roads. The second day we went zipling which is an ecotourism activity and that was a lot of fun - recommend doing it.
Don't Miss: Ziplining

We golfed one day and it was beautiful. I needed a sweater in the beginning because we were golfing in a higher elevation. But the views were fabulous. The last day we took a helicopter ride over the island and it was expensive but since most of the island is not able to be seen by car it was worth the money. And you can purchase a DVD recording you getting on the helicopter and previously recorded views from the helicopter on a nice day.

If you rent a car and visit Volcanoes National Park just remember to bring warm clothing. Since the elevation is higher the temperature is much lower (20 degrees colder). Be sure to drive all the way down to the water to see how beautiful it is - and the temperature is much warmer down there. It is a 7 mile hike (from down at the water) to see real lava flowing so pack good shoes.

We went tubing down a ditch which is considered ecotourism which means that it has less of an impact on the environment and the staff taught each of us about the area. Suprisingly 80% of this trip was done going through caves so if you don't want to be in a cave on a tube don't do this activity.
