Ship: Pride of Hawaii

Cabin type: Suite

Traveled as: Family (young children)

Review summary

The Pride of Hawaii is a beautiful, new ship with some problems. The staff is poorly trained and supervised. No one runs a "tight ship". There is much that is done sloppily. Is this because the staff knows that they will receive a certain % as a tip and so they have no incentive----OR has the staff been poorly trained. Everyone seemed friendly enough, that was not a problem. No one went beyond the limit of their particular job.

We rented a car to visit Volcano National Park. Saw the Chain of Crater road, the lava tubes and Pele's home. Left an offering for Pele. Had a snack lunch at Volcano House which was food, but not much good.
Don't Miss: Thank you Captain for showins us the lava at night-Beautiful and frightening!

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

We (6) took a private taxi tour. We visited the Place of Refuge and explained it's significance to the children. Then we swam at a public beach. Had lunch at the Kona Inn-very nice.
Don't Miss: Place of Refuge

We drove to Hana while here--a terrific ride.

The younger folk in our group took the Zipline Tour and LOVED it! We drove to Waimea Canyon for the spectacular scenery. The following AM we swam at a public beach where an endangered Monk Seal crawled up to rest on the beach.
Don't Miss: Zipline Tour and Waimea Canyon
