Review summary

The Pride of Hawaii was a nice ship, of course it is still in its inaugural year. The American staff attitude seemed to be a little more of 'this is work' instead of 'how can I help you'. One night we had gone to one of the shows before dinner. We wanted to get something to eat after the show so we went to the buffet around 8:40, not realizing it closed at 9:00. As we were getting our meal, one of the kitchen supervisors was going to each station telling the workers to get it closed it was almost 9:00. We thought it would have been nice had they at least offered to let us serve ourselves before they hustled the food away.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food was tasty, just not quite the presentation we had experienced on other NCL cruises. IE: carved fruit and vegetables, dramatic dessert presentations

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We always like the entertainment. The perfomers work very hard

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
While we didn't have any children in the program this time, we did visit with the children's staff. They seemed very nice and interested in the kids. We saw several kids come and greet them even while not on duty. The staff greeted the children warmly. The four we spoke with all indicated they had college degrees from teaching to counseling to recreation. These are not just 'babysitters'!

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Some of the staff understood the 'going above and beyond'. One of the security guys finally gave us a few pointers. It took us 3 days to get someone to open our room safe. It had apparently been closed by the last occupants, thus preventing us from accessing it. We asked room stewards, called the reception desk, talked to a housekeeping supervisor, talked to a maintenence person, each one telling us they would take care of it. A little clue, if you can't get an answer, ask a security officer, at least they will point you in the right direction.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Ship was nice and new, decorated with the Hawaiian theme. It was clean, the gift shop was out of the way, being at the far end of the ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Again, the ship is new, so condition of stateroom was nice. Beds were comfortable. We thought we had rooms all in a row, which was what we wanted because we were traveling w/ elderly parents. Turned out a main door is closed while in port, neccessitaing our going back down the hall, up the elevator, across the ship, then down the elevator and back down the hall to get to our parents room. You'd think room 4562 and 4570 should be a few steps away. Once the ship was moving, the door was opened, but it was frustrating being sent 'all over' trying to get to the next room:-< We did miss the extra touches like the towels folded into different shapes when you came back to the cabin.

Pros: We liked the fact that it was in Hawaii

Cons: Hard to get into specialty restaurants, we didn't know reservations were a must, not just suggested.
