Review summary

The embarkation was smooth, and the embarkation staff was very nice. My stateroom was a different story. We got to our room and discovered that the bathroom was dirty. There was hair and sand on the floor and urine on the seat. Yuck! We also found that our very expensive balcony room had a broken balcony door. We could only open it 6-inches! We called the Reception desk, and made our first complaint. Then, we decided to go stand in the hour long line. This was the first of 6 times going to reception to complain this same day. They said that whoever took our phone complaint didnt put it in the computer. It wasnt until 10:30 PM that our bathroom was cleaned and stocked (only by the room stewards regular rounds). It was frustrating. Excuse after excuse they would forget our room number, or they just thought we needed towels etc. How much clearer could I have been Our bathroom needs to be cleaned, and we need our balcony door fixed. We are in room 9078. I was a broken record for hours. They did fix the balcony door a day later, but made no apologies.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Buffet food was not very good. We had trouble getting reservations 3 days into the cruise. People make reservations, but don't show up... causing empty dining rooms and no available reservations. We ate in two of the specialty restaurants, and the food was ok.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
Most shows were boring... Not many activities, but there are no days at sea. So, it worked out.

Children's Programs

1 out of 5
Age groups/activities are not well matched.

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
Our room steward was very nice. The Reception Desk made many promises, but didn't come through. I guess that is how they quiet down people. There is a major communication problem between reception and the floor managers. The American staff is all that it's cut out to be... We got better service from the non-American staff.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship is very nice and clean. The decor is beautiful. Two public pools, large slide and 4 hot tubs were great. You have to pay to use the sauna.

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
Our balcony room was smaller than our balcony room on the Carnival Glory.

Volcano National Park and Akaka Falls (short hike) are very nice. We cruised by the lava that night - that was great!
Don't Miss: Volcano National Park

Pu`uhonua O Honaunau National Park and Bay View Coffee tour - free with yummy coconut coffee
Don't Miss: Pu`uhonua O Honaunau Park - full of sea turtles!

Nawiliwili, Kauai

5 out of 5
Kauai was simply... a beautiful island
Don't Miss: Na Pali Coastline - majestic

Kahului, Maui

3 out of 5
The mountain scapes, beaches, and endless sugar cane fields are very nice. Maui is very American with lots of golf courses and 5-star hotels.
Don't Miss: Snorkling at Molokini

Pros: Hawaiian Itinerary

Cons: Reception Desk, Management
