Review summary

Your Floating hotel in Hawaii. Not a great experience, just acceptable, poor value for the price paid. NCL needs some competition to spur improvements.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Early arrival with efficient embarkation thanks to online check in.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Aloha Cafe may be one of the worst buffets in our 40 year cruise history. Poor quality, limited selection, lukewarm food, indifferent service.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Moana for Hawaiian cultural experiences and port talks.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Polynesian dance program is top flight. Comedian was very good.

Children's Programs

No children traveling with us.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Mixed experiences. Not consistent across departments and/or within food and beverage department.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Ship needs a refresh. American theme is charming but tired.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
On the smaller end of the spectrum, but adequate and clean.

Ship tip

The Aloha Terrace is a great al fresco option and rarely crowded.

Ports of call

Honolulu, Oahu

4 out of 5
Waikiki is comparable to Las Vegas strip.

Kahului, Maui

Hilo, Hawaii

4 out of 5

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

5 out of 5
Charming and very walkable.

Nawiliwili, Kauai

5 out of 5
The port is nothing special, but the attractions and tours are the BEST!

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Quick and efficient.

Totally agree that the ship itself is disappointing. Because it’s the only US flagged ship and doesn’t have to visit a foreign country, they have a captive market and NCL certainly takes advantage of that both in the cruise fare and the food/services provided. Overall, it was worth it to us because it really is a great way to visit the islands. If this ship had other itineraries, no way would we book it.

I agree with you. We’ve been on this cruise ship 5 times and it gets worse each time. The last time was so bad we decided to do Hawaii on our own again this year. The buffet was so poor last year we just quit going. The food was never hot. It’s sad you have to go to one of the specialty restaurants or a diner to get a hot meal… come on Pride of America!!
