We took the same cruise 20 years ago for our honeymoon. This cruise was no comparison. There was no turn down service, no towel animals or ice sculptures. There were not as many activities on board, and what there was, I really wasn't interested in. I found out the reason they wouldn't let you know about the entertainment in advance was because they probably realized you would change your mind about the cruise if you knew how bad it was!
Embarkation
5 out of 5
There was nothing wrong with the embarkation experience. They even let us get on the ship earlier than we had planned.s
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
2 out of 5
The main dining rooms and specialty restaurants served the dishes cold. I was in the specialty dining room that served duck. I told the waitress I wanted the gravy separate. When the dish came out, the meat and the mashed potatoes were cold. I complained, and it was returned. When it came back the meat was hot and overcooked and the mashed potatoes were cold, with hot gravy on top!
When I had breakfast in the main dining room, the french toast was served cold. The waitress never came back to see if we were happy with the food, so I had to eat it cold or not eat at all!
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
We went into the whirlpool and attended a wine and chocolate seminar. The whirlpool was not real warm. The wine seminar was interesting, but I thought it was a little long.
Entertainment
2 out of 5
The magicians and comedians were okay. Nothing spectacular. There were no stage shows or musicals, like I was used to seeing in the past.
Children's Programs
We did not have any children with us.
Service and Staff
1 out of 5
The person who was supposed to be taking care of us never even introduced himself or told us how to find him if we had a problem. If we wanted a problem fixed, we called Guest Services, and they took care of the situation eventually.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The common areas were clean and well-maintained. It was a very big ship, easy for me to get lost. I had an appointment at the salon and I was 10 minutes late because I couldn't find the elevator that went to the area. The signs under the elevators indicated you should take the "aft" elevator or stairs, but gave no clue
about where to find them.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
The cabin was clean. It was a little cramped. We had to put the suitcases under the bed in order to have room to walk around. The bed was comfortable. The shower was so hot I was afraid to have it flow directly on my body, because I thought the water would burn parts of it.
Ship tip
I hope you like getting up early. The latest time you can get breakfast is 11:00 AM at the Cadillac Restaurant. The main dining room stops serving breakfast at 9:00 AM, and the Aloha Cafe (the buffet) stops serving at 10:00 AM. However, they start taking different stations down before 10:00 AM!
I’m assuming your last cruise was the one you took on this ship 20 years ago. Actually, this ship is pretty small by today’s standard. I can’t believe you were lost for 10 minutes on it. All cruise ship cabins are on the small side so you always need to store your luggage under the bed.
