Review summary

Overall, I was disappointed with this cruise. I felt like I was on the Staten Island Ferry - ok maybe the Circle Line. Kool-aid Cruise at Champagne Price. PROS: Departing and returning to Honolulu compared to other cruise lines that start and end in different locations. Visiting the several different islands, some with overnight stays. Lots of ports makes for an emptier ship so lots of room to spread out. Staff was friendly and professional* CONS: Not a good value. I have cruised on newer/larger NCL ships for less. Food was sub-par. Best meal was at East Meets West. The ship is dated, despite supposedly being recently refurbished. Balcony room was OK but bathroom very small with shower curtain - not ideal. Not much entertainment/activities while ship was sailing. Excursions were quite pricey. *Some staff were not placed in the proper roles. Felt like some crew was new and had little guidance or training. Some crew in customer service positions should probably be moved to background roles or definitely need to shadow more seasoned employees. While I am eager to return to Hawaii, it WILL NOT be with NCL unless they significantly upgrade the on-board experience.

Food and Dining

Very disappointed here, especially in the quality of the complimentary options. The best complimentary option was East Meets West BUT it was hard to get a reservation and communication about what needed a reservation and what didn't and when you could reserve was horrible.

Entertainment

I only gave this 2 stars because I didn't go to the shows. I just did not feel encouraged to participate in much on this ship. So, I did not want to rate the shows as terrible. But the lack of options and enthusiasm by the director was palpable.

Ship Quality

The ship is too old for this itinerary and the cost of the trip. This itinerary deserves a better ship. Not necessarily a larger ship but an NEW ship or completely gutted and renovated ship.

This was a ship we traveled on, and it was a jinxed ship from start to finish. First, they lost our luggage. The food was not good, nothing seemed fresh. The only fresh fruit offered was brown bananas and overripe green apples. Most entrees were smothered in spicy sauces and served lukewarm at best. Didn’t have a working bathroom for 3&1/2 days of a six day cruise. We asked for a different stateroom and we were informed it was a full ship, so we were just stuck. Nobody apologized for any of this ever. There were so many situations during this cruise, it was one thing after another. We’re not complainers, never have been. An apology would have gone a long way, never happened. The worst thing was one of the beds in our stateroom was left with dirty sheets contaminated with scabies. We never got credit for any previous cruises, so zero perks offered. We were never so glad to get off a ship in our lives. After flying back to Michigan, we wrote a strongly worded letter to the main office and their weak response was to offer a cheapie voucher for less than $300.00. We used it (felt obligated), another lame and disappointing time. Never again will we sail with Norwegian. The Norwegian company could have done the right thing and refunded part of our money, but chose to basically just blow us off. So unnecessary. Worst customer service we’d ever experienced in our entire lives. We’d been on eleven other cruises with, Carnival, Holland America and Royal Caribbean and never had any of these issues. I just felt ripped off for the money we’d spent and the realities on this ship. We’re not complainers, never have been, but this ship was just awful. We loved Hawaii, but hated this ship. Would go back to Hawaii in a New York second. However this ship, or Norwegian, never again. 😠😠😠

I hope you enjoyed the itinerary. It is a great way to see the islands.

Pride of America is the ship I’ll probably choose when I finally visit Hawaii, because for the reasons stated in another comment it’s able to have the best itinerary even if it’s not the most amazing ship. Depends what your priority is I suppose but for me my Hawaiian cruise will be all about Hawaii. Which I’m glad you enjoyed!

Do research. Only US flag cruise ship in world so it can to all ports in Hawaii without foreign country stop. All supplies from food to fuel come from 2400 miles away to Hawaii. All workers in US labor law. Staff have to b US citizens. Cruise about Hawaii, not party cruise. Going for our 8th time soon.

Just curious, how can you rate something you have not seen? Entertainment should be “NA” since you did not attend. Sorry you did not have a pleasant experience, hope future sailings are more to your liking.
