I had not been on Norweigan for about 17 years, as I've been mostly committed to Royal Caribbean. When I first saw the Pride of America I thought it looked a little run down, but once on the ship I found it to be beautiful, easy to navigate, very clean, and with a great staff. I will definitely go back to taking Norweigan cruises in the future. And you can't beat the itinerary. This is the only Hawaiian itinerary that visits all four major Hawaiian islands.
Embarkation

easy and fast
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Mostly the food and service was very good. There are a lot of potatoes and not a lot of vegetables if you're trying to be healthy. But they will double up a salad for you, if you ask.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Gym was good, big, and empty most of the time. Tried to walk around the walking deck #6 but it was partially closed off for a work crew so had to keep turning back and couldn't do full circles.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Went to one comedy show, it was great!
Children's Programs
I don't have children, did not participate.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Our room steward was great, but we were in a penthouse suite so perhaps we got one of the better ones. The butler was useless, when we called him for something half the time nobody picked up the phone. The concierge was good when used (for information, seating at the comedy show, and getting off the ship on disembarkation day). The waitstaff was great, very friendly. Also the staff on this ship was much more open to talking about their experience working on the ship, and their personal lives, which was refreshing.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Beautiful, clean, well-appointed ship.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Plenty of room to relax, great amount of storage in the closet and dressing room area, roomy bathroom, and phenomenal balcony. We had plenty of shampoos and lotions, always had clean towels and fresh ice in the bucket, as well as fresh fruit and water.
Ship tip
Book a penthouse suite, you get a lot of great perks and special attention.
No excursion, but spent a few days there before the cruise. Lots of petty crime, we were robbed at a beach park, but other than that the island is ok with some hiking and things. There are far too many people in the Waikiki area. We drove to the north of the island and saw sea turtles, which was great.
Went to Haleakala National Park. There was a flash flood warning so we couldn't do the Pipiwai Trail hike we wanted to do, and heard from a lot of people that the traffic on this island is horrendous, especially the road to Hana. Takes up the whole day.
Super easy to get a rental car, as there's a shuttle on the pier to take cruisers to the airport rental car center. We went to Volcanoes National Park and hiked almost 6 miles through the crater. You gotta check the weather, we were prepared with raincoats and were able to beat the torrential rain, but others did not.
Phenomenal, best part of Hawaii. Did the Mokihana helicopter over the entire island and the Napali Coast. The second day we did a kayaking and hiking excursion. This is by far the most beautiful island, and in my opinion the best for those who like to do outdoor activities. We will definitely be back.
Again, if you are booked in a penthouse suite, they make it so easy to get off the ship, with dedicated departure times, waiting areas, and shuttle lines.
