The cruise was really nice and we enjoyed getting around to the other islands in a convenient way. However, the population of guests was mostly older and the boat didn't have a lot for young people. I was also very upset that the boat and staff did nothing for us since we were on our honeymoon. We paid $5,000 to be on this boat for one week and they didn't upgrade us, give us a bottle of champagne or even a little cake. They gave cakes to people with birthdays and celebrating anniversaries, but nothing for our honeymoon? It was honestly kind of rude.
Embarkation

LOVED the different islands
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
The food was all mediocre except for some of the specialty dining. I have had better cruise food. Also the food was not open late enough. Restaurants need to be open later.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
The timing of fun activities was not conducive for people getting off the boat at each island. We missed everything. The events at night were not very fun for young people.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
Did not like the shows that much. Seen much better entertainment on other cruises. Seem to be very geared toward older people. We are in our mid 20s. The DJ at the clubs was also mediocre.
Children's Programs
We do not have kids
Service and Staff

Everyone working the boat was very nice
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
The boat was very nice but there was painting going on which smelled strong and also there was a surfer (rotten egg) smell some days.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Would have liked a little bigger of a room since we paid $5,000, and the shower was very small.
Loved that there was a shopping plaza right across the street that was very helpful. We rented a car and drove the road to hana ourselves, as well as went up to the top of the crater. Would recommend people doing this on their own.
We did the tour of the national volcano park, which was cool, but not the best thing we did. Would recommend people try other stuff, maybe a helicopter tour? Not sure.
Kauai is beautiful. We took the boat tour to the Na Pali coast and went snorkeling. Probably the best excursion we did. Gorgeous scenery, dolphins, turtles etc. It would have been nicer if the boat left a few hours later the second day because we didn't have time to get off the boat.
As a U.S. passenger ship so it does not have to go to an international port during the cruise, POA can have only 20 percent foreign workers and all exec. stagf has to be U.S. citizens. It,is the only way to have a cruise stop at each isla d in the State. Predissessor line, Independence cruise lines had 2 ships always full and same rules but failed. U.S. shining rules. Also, why high prices for goods I. Hawaii as all goods from US mainland must be US registered and US crew.
We were on Pride of America back in 2005. Shipyard beautiful, but staff at that time were mostly American and complained how hard they were worked. Service sucked. Hopefully that has changed since non-Americans are able to be employed.
Have great time. If you have done multi cruises on NCL you will get the special party invite and special champagne provided viewing of Kauai on the bow on the last evening.
We are going on POA in January for our 40th wedding anniversary and will mention to our planner and hope we get something. Hes gotten us some good deals and we have booked so far will be 9 cruises!
We have always gotten cakes and special notes from the staff in aniversaries. We always made sure that our cruise planner or travel let them know in advance. As you go on more NCL cruise the special benefits get better. We will be going POA cruise number five and cannot wait. Always great cruise.
We were a party of two who also paid a decent amount to go on this trip for one week. In the space of five days-they lost our luggage (showed up two days later) and we went three and a half days without a working bathroom (a nightmare) and were never given any fresh fruit on the entire trip except for sour green apples-no oranges, pineapple, nothing. If this would have been my first cruise-it would have probably have been my last. Only because I'd been on other cruises did I realize how much better it could ( and should) have been. Just sayin...Haven't wanted to cruise with them since.
