Review summary

This cruise is more for transportation to the various islands, as transportation it is 5 stars.  The ship is small, tight, cramped and not for those that want to stay on board.  There is no casino.  The food is average at best.  It is clean and most of the staff is friendly.  The workers average 80 hours a week and can't be expected to be upbeat and happy all the time.  We actually felt like they wanted us off the ship as much as possible, we were even encourage to spend the night out on different islands.  The food and entertainment encouraged you to get off the ship. I'm not sure if this is the cruise line or just because of the itinerary.  We will not try this line again or if we did we would get an inside room and pay the least amount possible.  You don't get your money's worth.  I do need to state again it was a great way to see various islands while in Hawaii.

Think of it as as an Uber Caravan ( rooms not big enough to swing a cat etc) and you will have the right expectation. Always trying to upsell for drinks etc but as most time spent off the ship and only sleep on board it is fine.

We're taking this cruise out of San Francisco in March after the ship is remodeled. Maybe the crew will have had a vacation and be happier!

You can also just go to Norwegian, then click on the Pride of America. I think my post is at the top. Good luck!

Once you go to the home page, you'll see the search bar at the top right. Put mel-b then search. Scroll down to the results, you will see the title "This American is proud to review the Pride of America 4/11 to 4/18

bigpoppie, I'm not sure if you're asking just the person who reviewed? We had cruised quite a bit prior to the Pride of America, and I did a ton of research before we left so I think my expectations were properly aligned. IMO this was a great way to see Hawaii, 4 islands. It's a means to an end. Floating resort. I wrote an extensive review on cruisecritic dot com under the name of mel-b.

would you recommend for a first time cruiser who wants both the ship experience also port experience?

I agree with Sue above. Pride of America is an anomaly. Awesome way to see Hawaii, but don't use this ship as a benchmark of other NCL ships. Give them another shot on Sat the Epic or Getaway

WOW!!! This is the very trip I'm interested in.

Don't allow the Pride of America to turn you off the Norwegian line. Their new ships are completely different with so many restaurant options (both complimentary and specialty) and the entertainment is phenomenal on the Breakaway, Getaway and Escape.

Loved your comments ! You opened my eyes. an are exactly right. I was let down with the overall cruise. A great way to see a glimpse of many islands. But not a good Cruise
