Review summary

Cruising Royal is always wonderful. We would not choose the Oddessey again, but she is a nice ship for most. Back to the Oasis or Freedom class for our family. We will definitely be back to Aruba!

Embarkation

Super easy to get on the ship! Very quick, no lines!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Great service as always! Less selection than in prior years. I am picky and paid extra for filet each night except for chicken parmesan night. I would have liked other chicken options. Dessert was great every night.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
This was our biggest complaint. The cruise director was terrible. The sportsplex was great but there was no family times. The teen times were limited as the court is used for other activities such as bumper cars. Adults barely had time to use it. The Playmakers bar is great but the kids take it over. The music hall was the same, kids taking over the pool tables and in there when there were adult game shows. The music selection was bad this cruise. My elderly parents may have liked it, but we were not impressed. There was no good venue for the game shows. Everything was crowded and hard to participate or see. The activities had too many gaps in them. You would go to something that was fun and then there was nothing to do for an hour or two. The Northstar and IFly were booked before you even got on the ship. There are no big slides or anything else for the teens to get into.

Entertainment

The comedian and the juggler were great. The rest were not impressive.

Children's Programs

The court was great when they could use it. It closed at 11pm and curfew was 1am. Teens were running wild for 2 hours and several caused damage to the ship. At least one family was kicked off. We went during spring break but I have never seen kids that bad.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
I would give this 5 stars except for the lack of security in the adult shows and clubs. They cold have cared less. Otherwise we were extremely impressed with the service.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Cleanliness is a 5! Design I would give it a 2. There is no promenade and it felt very closed in and crowded on deck 5. The pool decks were nice. The solarium is great (including the bistro). There was no club or theater that was big enough or laid out well for the game shows. Very aesthetically designed but not as practical.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Very good. The bed is firm so ask for a topper. There is less storage in the vanity than used to be. The balcony is diagonal so the neighbor can see you if your looking over the balcony. Great service!

Ship tip

Order the Lime and Coconut!

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

We stayed on our own. Always love it there.

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

Much better than prior years! Lots to do and plenty of relaxation! Definitely recommend the jet skis! Very safe!

Oranjestad, Aruba

We rented jeeps and drove to the Natural Pool. then went to the beach by the lighthouse. It was wonderful!

Willemstad, Curacao

4 out of 5
The taxis at port were difficult, trying to fill the vans and refused to take us to the beach we wanted to go to because it was further away and there were only 3 of us. We ended at Blue Bay which is a resort. It was a nice day. Great snorkeling.

Disembarkation

Aside from being sad that vacation was over, it was extremly smooth and easy!
