Ship: Oasis of the Seas

Cabin type: Balcony

Cabin number: 6602

Review summary

We will not cruise again. Not geared for people over 65. Maybe a river cruise on small boat. Too big, too loud, too much confusion.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Too Confusing, Like a cattle pen

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Food Great, water should be free.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Pools crowded, Spa expensive and always up-selling.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Great and Bad: Cats was dark and poorly performed. Family friendly comedy first comedian bombed. Aqua and ice both very good. Music great.

Children's Programs

No kids

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Very efficient, very polite throughout ship. Cabin Attendant exceptional (Lloyd).

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
All very clean. Ship too big. Always on the wrong deck or wrong end. Very attractive but very confusing.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Clean, but too small. Balcony was nice but needs lounge type chair. Could not get wife’s walker past the bed.

Ship tip

Getting off is Hell. You have a nice trip, then it is all wrecked in the debarkation. Just too many people.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

4 out of 5

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

4 out of 5
Nice active stop.

Falmouth, Jamaica

4 out of 5
Easy to get off. No short (2-3 hr) shore excursions, so just hung around the dock shops.

Cozumel, Mexico

3 out of 5
Again, seemed like very long shore excursions, but dock area had plenary going on.

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
Terrible. The people that help don’t know much and don’t speak much English. Much confusion and employees either bark at you like sargents or just don’t know how to direct you. Ruined the trip ending.

We love the smaller ships. We sail them almost exclusively and it solves many of the issues you experienced. We also agree with trying Celebrity, it is excellent.

Try a smaller ship like Serenade or such. My husband and I are over 65, and have sailed on all the big ships...not for us either. The last Allure raise in Oct made us give up the big ships. Too noisy, too many children (and yes, we are grandparents), and just not the same hospitality!

Try a smaller ship and book an accessible cabin. With your wife using a walker you are eligible and that would give her the extra space needed for maneuvering.

Try a smaller ship on Celebrity. They are great. Wonderful service, delicious food. I can also say the same for Holland America Nieuew Amsterdam. We went last March and loved it. Geared for an older crowd. Also wonderful service and delicious food.

They have oversized rooms you just need to pay more. I always get the premium extended balcony has plenty of room for my wife and i an 4 kids

Maybe you shouldn't have picked a ship with over 6000 passengers.

I’m so sorry to hear that. I guess it’s really up to preference. My husband’s grandparents are in their late 80s and they adore the Oasis of the Seas. They have been on it 6 times now.
