Review Summary

If you speak to Land staff of RCC get it documented and if possible copy sent to you. Write down name of Rep, job title and time of call as it will be thrown back at you later on. I called Sept 5th to discuss my refund of soda package I bought for hubby and was told refund would be on my card. Today is Oct 9th and still no refund. Got the email confirming the refund but nothing in acct yet. Said the refund could also be a ship credit so asked if that had possibly happened and was told no so have no idea where my money went. Staff on ship said nothing to do with them and when they called they said land staff said it was refunded Sept 6th well before sailing so won't have gone on shipboard credit but can't give me info on what acct number they refunded so someone got $148 but not me! I also discussed my buying the alcohol drink package for myself as hubby is allergic to alcohol and was told I could purchase it once onboard and had to have hubby present to confirm his allergy. They understood that not every passenger drank or could due to medical or was a recovering addict etc so of course it was available to purchase just one package in person. I was told it would be at 30% discounted price as long as I purchased at Guest Services and then first day only!! Got on board and was called a liar by Gibson the on board Guest Services staff member. Said nothing was documented in my file so obviously I did not speak to any one of RCC staff. Onboard and land staff have different rules so what I book on shore is not always what I get once onboard unless it is documented in my file by the rep I talk to. When I got upset at being called a liar he made a call and was told if I had a medical waiver from hubby's doctor I could have it at 10% discount and that was a favor to me for being top tier passenger. Would not give me the name of person he spoke to or let me speak to them myself. I refused to accept less than what I had been told I would get if I waited to purchase in person, so left. At 4 pm on 4th day of cruise I got called to Guest Services to be offered the package at 30% off but we had to pay for 4 full days or nothing. If we hadn't been comped through travel agent and Top Tier Crown & Anchor Society free meals at Chops, Giovannis, Sabors, and Johnny Rockets would have been a miserable week. Timing for evening shows made eating in Dining room impossible as they were slow. So ate at specialty restaurants or Windjammer. In the Windjammer the food was either raw (eggs at breakfast were runny and raw everyday including the premade omelets were only cooked on one side and folded over the raw tops, chicken and fish at lunch raw when cut open to eat), waffles soggy, pancakes rubbery, soups were tepid and just not the all around variety we came to expect in old standbys like crusty rolls. On 3rd day of cruise Head of Windjammer stopped by our table as he was talking to passengers about any concerns so I told him my issues listed here. I asked if the eggs served were real as real eggs shouldn't be served raw and these were soupy. He said they were aware of the issue and it was being addressed. Apparently for next cruise as nothing changed all week. No longer serve plain croissants at breakfast, a waitress would go down to dining room and get them for me last 3 days after everyone finally admitted they weren't available upstairs anymore. Can't believe I am only one who likes them with breakfast. I was told for first few days to just wait they would be bringing more out or when we waited and none came, was told "sorry they must have run out, come back earlier tomorrow and try to get them then." Couldn't wait as we were run out of the dining room it was so crowded they were announcing you were to eat and leave asap. Miss having someone offering you coffee or tea when you are eating, etc. Only happened twice all week. I asked for lemon for my water at the drink station where they were filling the glasses of water, lemonade juices, etc and was told to go find it myself at the bar. When I asked where that was he said he didn't know and walked off. He said only bar staff is allowed to handle sharp knives so that is where the fruits were sliced. I asked if perhaps he could cut slices when not making drinks and some of the staff put them around with the water etc. He said no they no longer offer lemon or lime for non bar drinks. Then didn't have staff to train them in knife safety so they couldn't allow that to happen as it wasn't in their job description and no longer in their policy he said. MADE NO SENSE as there was plenty of times I saw the bartender standing around talking to other staff he could have sliced a lemon or two and talk at same time. It is the little things that make cruising special and fun but RCC no longer offers them or charges for it! Yes, I could have eaten Pizza or sandwiches but friends we were with said they didn't want to rely on foods we can buy everyday @ home so only ate at Johnny Rockets once as it was free. Good thing about this cruise I came home having lost weight not gained it! Gained 2 notches on my belt!

Embarkation

Staff at embark was great but they had issues getting Customs paperwork done with passengers so was long wait to get aboard. They were more concerned with getting pictures taken than letting us onboard ship.

Ship Experiences

Food and Dining

Sabor Bar

Best drinks on ship. Wish they offered the specialty margaritas shipwide it would have saved some walking! LOLAlso loved the food in Sabors.

Johnny Rockets

4 out of 5

Had the best burger ever for fast food! Was told they still did song and dance but apparently not on day we were there as we waited but they didn't do anything. Great service and food. Miss the little song and dance skits though it makes the visit worth it.

Giovanni's Table

3 out of 5

Went for dinner and not so good as waiter had an accident with another table and they made him spend all his evening waiting on them so rest of his tables suffered. My friend and I got our appetizers but our husbands didn't get theirs for 30 mins and it was cold and kitchen shouldn't have allowed it out but he served congealed pasta and cold mussels. Meal and service went downhill from there. Head waiter came by AT END OF MEAL to see how it went and offered us a free lunch with hot mussels etc if we would come back. Thankfully we didn't have anything planned for the evening as everything stopped for over 30 mins for us because of the other table taking over the restaurant. Passengers who came in after us were served and left before we got our entrees. Make up lunch was fine but of course was lunch not dinner as no openings fit our remaining schedule.

Chop's Grille

Excellent! Food was great could cut my filet with a spoon. Waiter brought lots of sides that were served family style and unlimited portions. Food was cooked to perfection and served hot! Highly recommend this venue

Champagne Bar

Waited 35 mins for a waiter as bartender and another waiter were busy talking to customers seated at the bar. There were menus at the tables so we assumed that eventually there would be a waiter come by. The waiter in the seating area was sitting with a group of women who had chocolate martinis and he was drawing pics on their drinks as they drank them. We were the only other group in the bar so no excuse to make us wait that long to get service. After waiting and waiting we finally got up to leave and he wandered over then proceeded to give us a hard time about not going to bar and getting our own drinks if the 30 min wait was too long etc. Was extremely rude and basically told us our business wasn't wanted so we never went back.

Onboard Activities

Unless you play trivia didn't see much offered. Had a complimentary spa in my booking package but was billed for it and took 3 days to get it removed completely from bill. They removed parts, doubled others etc. Hot tubs were tepid and the jets didn't work in some. Have serious spinal issues and deck chairs were uncomfortable very hard to sit on the metal bars for long periods so was lucky to sit there an hour at a time. The cushioned chairs in Solarium were all in the sun and taken by 10 am every day.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Need to pay off the contracts to CATS Cast and let them go. Sound system was so bad even knowing the words to songs was unable to recognize them during the show. Too Slow most around us either left or slept through it. We left at 1st chance we got. Never got to see the Diving show and in talking to 2 of the divers was told they almost never get a full week of shows in except in March and April. Something they don't put in their brochures of course. No back up show.

Service and Staff

I fell in the ladies bathroom at Windjammer Cafe the first hour on ship, Goose egg on head, tore up both arms and sprained wrist. Went outside to tell staff and only one I saw was a man directing us to the Windjammer so told him and was told, "NOT MY JOB, PLEASE MOVE ALONG"! Luckily I wasn't seriously injured but was worried someone would be as the toilet was leaking and water was running out on a white floor was hard to see.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
Places in the Windjammer Cafe had torn seat cushions and smelled of vomit. Mildew smells in Solarium carpeting. Bars and nightclub areas were too small more like closets. Spent a lot of time just sitting in Starbucks seating on Promenade deck waiting for a seat inside or a show to open.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
Cabin was clean but they have new law on ship that you have to have lights on in cabin at all times. I can not sleep with any light so very long week. Taped Patter to cover light in bathroom as that light can't be turned off but still cabin was too light for sleeping. Was told if I bypassed the light switch or removed the bulb it would notify the bridge. Bulb was too large for fixture as it was much brighter than neighboring cabins but steward unable to replace it to lower wattage.

Ship Tip

Book another ship if more than 2 in party. We had another couple with us so impossible most of the week to get seating for 4 inside the bars when music was playing so missed alot. Have been on almost 50 cruises and this was the worst of all. Rude staff, Overpriced shops and drinks, especially when they don't know how to make drinks when you finally get waited on as we waited 35 mins several times for a waiter then they didn't understand Lemon Drop Martini etc. When I went directly to the bar to order a drink same attitude. No seating in venues, Sat outside the British Pub as it was too small to get a table for 4 inside and no speakers so couldn't hear the entertainer.

Rude people. Ship staff want you to book their transport so won't give info on how the free trolley works, etc. Locals won't speak English when you asked them directions or for information. Got on wrong trolley 2 times before finally booking a taxi to the Fort. Was such a short stop only got to visit one of the Forts.

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

Long waits for trolley to get cold food and sunburns. Had been 20 yrs since I last went there and won't go back.
