Review summary

RC needs to step up their service in the food category. You should NOT have to pay to eat great on this cruise. Lacking in the quality I have come to accept from RC.

Embarkation

Line moved quickly. We embarked at noon. Part of the line is outside and really hot. However, you are not in the sun but under parking garage. Basically you continually stand in line for up to about 45 minutes.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
The main dining room had a poor choice of food each night. It seemed that they rotated only one item from appetizer, main dish, and dessert each night. Otherwise it was the same food over and over. The wait staff can not handle the 4000 people on board. Causing your dinner to last up to 2 hours. We waited for our drinks for 30 minutes. Then ordered our food. Waited again for about 45 min for main dish to be delivered. The restaurants on board are fabulous! However, there is a surcharge to eat at each one. Our favorites were Johnny Rockets, Sombreros, and Central Park 150. In the end we quit eating dinner in the main dining and ate out. In my opinion if I am paying Royal Carribean prices then all restaurants should be free! Not impressed at all. We are a family of 5, if my kids have been on board we could not have afforded to eat out of the main dining.

Johnny Rockets

Great food every time. Quality service! The breakfast is not a extra charge and was much better than the windjammer. We only found out on the 6th day this was a option. Wish we had went there every morning.

Wipe Out Cafe

1 out of 5

Food seemed to be leftovers from the last meal in Windjammer. The hotdogs and hamburgers were extremely cold. Buns were never warmed and were hard! No sodas available there even if you purchased the refreshment pkg.

Sabor

Wonderful waiters! Great guacamole. The food was more than I could eat but fabulous!!

American Icon Grill

2 out of 5

Food choices were sub par. The food was not cooked as I asked. The waiting staff can not keep up with the amount of visitors. This makes what should be a one hour meal last for 2 hours. You should not have to wait over 30 minutes for a drink.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
There was quite a bit to do for each age group. I was basically on board to relax and read. Did not choose many activities. I did feel the small events like minute to win it games were very lacking. Seemed to have been put together just 5 minutes before showing.

Solarium

1 out of 5

The way this area is glassed it makes it hot and humid. Very hard to stay in there during the summer heat. You just don't get a breeze to come through. I like it is adult only but cant seem to stomach the heat. It would be nice during the winter but that is not a time I would like to cruise.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Reserve your seats for the entertainment before boarding the ship. The seats go fast and sometimes stand by does not get in. The diving show was WONDERFUL! I was not impressed by CATS performance but I am not a fan of Cats.

AquaTheater

5 out of 5

Absolutely AMAZING!! I cant believe the depth of the water that they divers use. Wonderful performance.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our room steward Jermaine was fabulous! He did anything we asked and more. Great service!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Ship was constantly being cleaned in areas. Wonderful design. Even though the ship was huge it still was easy to navigate. Most of the ship is made of up staterooms. When you take that out of the picture you really dont have much room to get lost in.

Cabin / Stateroom

Ship tip

Bathroom is tiny! The shower is a circle stall. Basically you cant shave your legs without hanging out of the shower door! Dont bring many items. Hardly any storage and there was only 2 of us. Loved the balcony but they could have redesigned the shower to have more ease.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

We did the private beach excursion with dinner. Beautiful beach and water. Ride there was by bus. Took approximately 30 minutes to reach the beach. Chairs are provided but umbrellas cost a additional $5. Well worth the investment. A restaurant is located onsite. They will bring your lunch to you. I ordered spicy bang bang shrimp poboy. It was fabulous! Tipped the waiter a few dollars. Great visit!!

San Juan, Puerto Rico

5 out of 5
Stayed on the boat. Seemed like the only thing to do in San Juan within walking distance was shopping. Not looking to purchase anything. Enjoyed a lazy day on the ship.

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

5 out of 5
Private Island owned by RC. Had great items for kids like water sports. For adults you could use sea doos, parasail, and swim. WARNING.. Vendors are crazy. Dont pay what they ask. Lady said a friends purchase totaled up to $75. She was appalled. Told the lady she only had $20 bill. The vendor said fine. Took the $20 and moved on.

One can eat so much processed food, aka Windjammer. Ugh.

I honestly believe as ship gets bigger, the harder it is to maintain consistent food quality. Its easier to do it for 3000 or so passangers and crew than for well over 8000 passengers and crew.
