Disappointing. Royal Caribbean is more interested in making money that giving the cruiser an enjoyable experience.

Review summary

It is annoying how RCCI saves seats for the top cruisers in the theater, studio B and the aqua show and has a special kitchen and dining room for the suites. There's a feeling that we who chose not to cruise so often on Royal Caribbean are second class cruisers. Other cruise lines gives suites special dining, but it’s not so overt. I prefer free internet and free laundry to having seats saved for entertainment events. It appears that making more money is more of a priority than giving cruisers a great vacation. I am still annoyed that you don't give shipboard credit for RCCI stockholders. RCCI always says I booked it under a certain code and it's not eligible for stockholders' shipboard credit. Princess and Holland America have never refused us stockholders' shipboard credit and Princess gives us military shipboard credit also. Would it really hurt your bottom line that much to give $100 shipboard credit to a stockholder? The ill will it causes is far more damaging that the $100.

Embarkation

We arrived later than I usually do and the lines were very long. They moved quickly, but too long. There were just too many people on this ship!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The main dining room was very nice and the food was generally good. The Windjammer was awful. All of the stations are disorganized, ie salad items were spread out in different areas and the food was basically thrown on there, not nicely presented. We tried to avoid the Windjammer. The solarium cafe was better and the park cafe was fairly good. The food selections at the promenade cafe has been greatly reduced. We purchased a coffee card and were very disappointed to see that it was only for limited and small sized coffee drinks. Princess cruise does not limit the type or size you can purchase with a coffee card.

American Icon Grill

5 out of 5

The food was usually good. Nomer our waiter and Selvon, the assistant waiter made it more enjoyable. We were placed at another table one nignt and the service was noticably worse. The head waiter and the sectional waiter came to our table several times to see if there's anything we needed. Actually, they were too attentive and it was annoying. Three different nights they had the waiters and cooks coming out so we could tell them how great they were. This is too much. Once on a 7 night cruise once is enough!!

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The rock climbing wall was good. The assistants were very helpful and encouraging. I went to the fitness center several times, but didn't see any of the staff.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The ice show was great and the Come fly with me was a good show, but my granddaughters didn't really like it. They enjoyed the headliner show comedy and the one in the ice ring on the last night. We didn't see Cats as it was canceled the night we had reservations for it and we didn't want to go during the day. I had heard that it was so bad that many of the audience got up and walked out at intermission. This I heard from numerous people, so we didn't bother. If it had been Mama Mia we wouldn't had missed it.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our room stewart Aleus was very good. Most of the service staff were friendly and accommodating. There were a few that were not.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
I have been on the Oasis and the Allure before and I think the design is good. The ship was clean, but it needs some TLC. The carpets are worn out, lounge chairs have tears in them, the towels are frayed. I knew this week would have lots of children because it was spring break, but the ship was just too crowded!!

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin had sufficient storage and the balcony was large enough. Beds were ok as far as comfort. Cabin was clean due to our excellent steward, Aleus.

Ship tip

Don't go at spring break or when the kids are out of school. Go on a week when you know there won't be many children.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

3 out of 5
It's closer to home than Ft. Lauderdale.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Been there, done that.

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

Wish there were more places to swim in the ocean.

Disembarkation

We took our luggage off ourselves to save time.

We are on Oasis right now. This is our 14th cruise (5th Royal Caribbean) and have never felt like a second class citizen. Yes they reserve seats for the suites etc but so what.....show up early like we did and have just as good seats in the second row. We did have a comical moment 2 nights ago. We ordered a couple drinks from a bar on the Promenade. Both drinks came with fancy plastic RCL stirrers instead of the usual little black straw. We were pleased at the touch for the first time until the waitress brought our cards back. My husband looked at them and said they weren’t ours. Had to insist a few times and said “our cards are blue” The ones she kept trying to hand off were Pinnacle cards and we are clearly not pinnacle members LOL She found ours and returned them. We joked that that was probably why we got the fancy stirrers. Ordered another drink and laughed as we saw the little black straw in it this time. That is honestly the only difference we have personally felt. Great cruise so far!

Some people don’t have the chance to go on a vacation, less of a chance to go on a cruise. Stop complaining and appreciate what you have.

Anthony1970    6 years ago

So it wasn't a great vacation, because you didn't get free money or reserved seating. You make it real hard to agrea with you.

Stop complaining. I own stock in major companies but they don't give me special treatment. If you want the perks pay for them

DreamCatchers    6 years ago

We have cruises both suites and non-suites. When we were in a balcony room I never felt like we were treated inferior. Never ever! We love the suites and appreciate the special treatment-it comes with the bigger price tag. And like others have said, once you sail the suites you won’t go back. We work super hard for our money and no one should make you feel like garbage for the splurge. 😀happy cruising

Tough ColKay! If you want special perks, pay the price. No one is forcing you to cruise on RCCL.

MyLadyNMe456    6 years ago

If you have enough money to buy stocks, you should have enough to cruise with RCCL. But owning one share, or maybe 2, does not quite make you a major stock owner, does it? You should just feel lucky that you had the extra money to actually cruise on the Oasis!

We are one of those people you are complaining about. We looked at rooms and prices and spent the money to be in a suite with a genie. We were one that had the saved seats and my granddaughter was on the ice in the ice show, because we wanted what the suite parked were. If you are not willing to pay for those things then do not complain because other people are. You get what you pay for. There is a difference between first class and coach on an airplane just like there is a difference between suites and regular rooms. I am excited to say we will again be in a suite with a genie on the Anthem this Sept and again in March. I will not apologize for the treatment I will receive because I am willing to spend the money v

The suite guests pay big bucks for the extra amenities. Thats why we spend the extra money. Try a suite just once and you won't go back to regular rooms. We cut our vacations to once a year just because of the cost. Well worth it.

If you want special treatment. Spend the money, just because you're a stockholder doesn't mean they should roll out the red carpet for you.

Miamiway64    6 years ago

It's called loyalty the more you sail with a cruise line the more benefits you receive and if I spend the extra money for a suite I would want that extra special treatment too I personally have never booked a suite on Royal Caribbean only a junior suite but I am a diamond member, however I understand the perks that they give people that spend that amount of money because they are quite expensive and its ironic that you're complaining that these people are getting treated special because they booked suites. you being a stockholder are also. wanting special treatment because you're a stockholder. And thank you so much for your military service it is greatly appreciated.
