Review summary

The Captain and crew were very good. The food just adequate ( Due to the Freestyle Dining, I believe). Ricky, the cruise director, is the best I've seen. The ports are very well represented and time in port is very good. Fanning Island is well worth the two days there and back. Only 3 degrees off the Equator. Why not take a little more time and cross it for those who have never had that privelege? The Hawaiian Cultural presentations were awesome! Handicrafts, demonstrations, lectures and shows were fascinating.

Ports of call

Fanning Island, Kiribati

NCL has the trip very well organised and the free beach area is very pretty and the water refreshing. Lunch is good even though I got a cold hotdog. Take a walk as far down the road as you care to and talk to the friendly people. They will pose in a coconut tree for a buck. They will let you look in their simple homes made from local materials. Buy the stamps at the post office and a $2 coin. Get your passport stamped. There a several venders under the trees as you first go ashore. Look but don't buy until later when you are ready to tender back to the ship. They are in more of a bargaining mood by then. There are good shell items to buy cheaply. There are also sharktooth knives that are interesting.
Don't Miss: Meet the people. Snorkle if you can.

Lahaina, Maui

5 out of 5
Quaint town with great shopping. Take the bus for $2 and see the Ocean Institute. Eat the Ono at Captain Johns in the Lahaina Mkt Place off Front St. Take the glass sided "submarine" for $34. They put divers in the water to stir up some interesting critters for you. Atlantis is too expensive. The huge Banyan tree by the Courthouse is awesome. Snorkel at mile marker 13. Watch the thorns on the beach.

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

3 out of 5
Walk around and see the sights near the dock. There is a royal palace that was damaged in the recent earthquake and across the street is an interesting church. Farther down the road is the Kona Inn and shopping area. Eat at the Inn with a great view and shop the shops. Great collection of old surfboards at the Inn. Big mounted fish too. There are free shuttles to Hilo Hatties, WalMart and Kmart. The Kmart shuttle will drop you off at a new shopping indoor/outdoor complex with some unique items.
Don't Miss: Deep sea fishing or shopping.

Must see Apapka Falls (we had a luau with Senator Dan Apapka on Oahu). The Orchid Farm is very nice.
Don't Miss: Apapka Falls

Nawiliwili, Kauai

5 out of 5
It rained hard the whole day we were there and the bridge at the north end of the island was closed. Princeville is worth seeing as is the bay past the bridge. I can't remember the name of it, but we saw it before and it is beautiful. This is the prettiest island to visit of them all.
Don't Miss: The bay at the north end.
