Review summary

Our cruise itinerary was changed due to the hurricane but we still had a relaxing time. The Sun is a small ship but had plenty to do. This is a good ship if you like smaller crowds but I would recommend sailing on a larger ship for a first time cruiser. Our trip was a last minute girls trip but the Sun satisfied our purpose. We were disappointed in our itinerary change. While I understand we couldn’t go to the cancelled ports, adding in another one or some kind of compensation would have been nice. We were supposed to have 3 ports and ended up being overnighted in Nassau. We made the most of it and still had a good time.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
There were five of us traveling, one with oxygen and a wheelchair. We were directed to the accessible line and were quickly checked in. However, the general line was also moving very quickly. We proceed directly to the ship and our rooms were ready when we arrived. Overall a smooth process.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food in the main dining room was fantastic. This was my first time on Norwegian and I liked being able to go to dinner when I wanted. However, I did miss not having the same wait staff. Buffet was good with a verity of options. We ate here mostly for lunch. We had two specialty dining night. Cagneys and Teppanyaki. Both were good. Our cook at Teppanyaki put on a good show and had us laughing. I highly recommend these two restaurants.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
The spa raffled away spa credit and I won $100. Had one of the best massages I’ve ever had. Pools/hot tub were clean and not as crowded as I thought they would be. Onboard shops are small. Casino was okay and not too smokey. They also had a small snack bar set up which was nice.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Entertainment was good but the shows were mostly musicals aside from the comedy show. The white night had very few people but I assume that’s because the Sun is a smaller boat.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All staff we encountered were very nice and accommodating. At one of the shows our person with oxygen needed to plug her machine in. The lady in the sound booth informed us there were no outlets in the theater. She graciously let us use hers in the booth.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Ship was always clean and easy to navigate.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our rooms steward, Richard, was fantastic. He was very personable and greeted us every day. We had three people in our room and we didn’t feel cramped. Lots of storage in the room and between the three of us we still didn’t use it all. Balcony was a good size. My only complaint would be is the pull out couch was extremely hard. Richard was great at getting us an egg crate topper and added a comforter for an extra layer of comfort.

Ship tip

Windjammer Bar made the best drinks

Ports of call

Nassau, Bahamas

4 out of 5
Nassau isn’t my favorite port and we were overnighted here due to the hurricane. We did the catamaran and snorkel tour (which was fantastic) one day and we had a shopping day the next.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
We had airport transfer and got off the ship at 8:00am when our color tag was called. Porter helped us with our luggage and unloaded it at the bus for us. One of the easiest disembarkations Ive had.
