Review summary

Again, a lesser experience than what we’re used to with Princess. The food, ship and offerings were just very average. We loved the crew, but that was the high point.

Embarkation

Very smooth, we had Priority Access, so they immediately sent us through.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
MDR Versailles was way too busy, way to slow. One evening our server never checked on us on my meal was very overcooked. MDR Aqua, service much better, great follow up. Neither MDR had very tasty dishes, nothing looked at all elevated. Gatsby’s my rib-eye steak was cooked to the right temperature, but incredibly tough. A friend ordered a Prime Rib with the same experience. Service was rushed, we cancelled our second reservation there. Tepanyaki was fun, food was “ok” by limited, didn’t include soup & salad, shrimp appetizer like most steak houses. La Cuccina was good, but really nothing special. Le Bistro was OUTSTANDING, delicious food, presentation and exceptional service!!! We returned 2 more times and always had the same fabulous service. We thought the bar tenders at Gatsby’s were absolutely top notch! With the exception of Le Bistro & Gatsby’s, the bars and restaurants did not meet the standards we receive on Princess, who we cruise with quite a lot.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Very limited except daily trivia. Plenty of opportunity to gamble or pay to play.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The Comic Juggler was absolutely hysterical, very funny and talented. Th production shows were also quite good. Beyond that, not much of interest.

Children's Programs

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Except for the rushed dining in Gatsby’s and Versailles poor service, we had exceptional service in O’Sheehan’s, Le Bistro and the bars. Our room steward was very good and would quickly attend to any of our needs. That said, it was obvious that he had way too many cabins and shows why NCL doesn’t do turn down service any longer.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship was always clean. They’ve tried to update it, but it definitely looks dated. The ship seems cramped with not enough lounge areas or bars.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
VERY small lacking good storage space & drawers for a 14 day cruise. Bathroom was very small. Balcony table was tiny.

Ship tip

Don’t have high expectations and appreciate the crew.

Ports of call

Reykjavik, Iceland

We rented a car for $124.00USD and drove the Golden CIrcle, allowing us to stop whenever and where we wanted. Driving was very easy on good, open highways. Much less expensive than a guided tour!

Isafjordur, Iceland

Outstanding - very charming walkable port. We took a RIB boat tour of the fjord. This was one of the most outstanding tours we’ve ever taken.

Akureyri, Iceland

Another very charming, walkable port. We rook a guided tour of all the main attractions - really a must do to appreciate the unique terrain.

Seydisfjordur, Iceland

Just like Akureyri, charming very small port. We really must do a tour to the Godfuss waterfalls and other amazing areas.

Olden, Norway Did not visit port

Didn’t visit

Bergen, Norway Did not visit port

Beautiful, walkable city - we took the tram up to the viewing area - really terrific.

Kristiansand, Norway

Loved this small city - all walkable, visited a wonderful old church, where we heard an organ recital. Good bakeries and shopping.

Oslo, Norway

Where we left from. SO much to do! We loved Vigeland, took an Uber for $18.00usd, very reasonable considering the distance. The Munch Museum was very interesting and beautifully a laid out. We were able to walk most places in town from our downtown location. The Fort was close by as was the Grand Hotel Rooftop Bar!

Disembarkation

Very organized, but wow, LORS of long ramps! If you are not particularly fit, it could be a long, challenging walk.
