Review summary

NCL is a good cruise line with excellent food, beverage, entertainment and balcony staterooms. There are insufficient areas to relax, outside of your private balcony, without constant loud music and "activities" The customer service representatives on the NCL Star need better training and everything you're told should be verified before you leave the counter or you will have to spend another 45 minutes (on aveege) in line to re-do what you were told to do previously.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We were already on the ship so it went very fast although NCL somehow figured out a way for us to have to wait in line 3 times to accomplish the registration - and we weren't changing cabins on this leg of our journey!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The food and service on all the restaurants we ate at was excellent throughout the entire voyage!

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The pools were mostly off limits to us as there was never a break in the loud music - recorded or live - and little time to just relax. The spa was nice and the other deck activities were fun. Having a balcony stateroom was the best place to relax.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The shows' were varied and well presented. The independent musicians playing in the various bars and snack areas were for the most part very good. Brass bands should not be booked into the small "intimate" bars though.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everyone we encountered - other than those at the customer "service" desk - were every professional., polite, appeared to be happy and enjoying their jobs, and efficient in what they did. The customer service area appears to have not trained their representatives very well. We received different instructions from different people too many times to count. We were on 4 "back to back" cruises and were required to wait in line innumerable times to re-register (2 times for the same room and 1 for a different room (which we didn't want in the first place). A terrible waste of time that we could have been on land or our balcony.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
There should be more enclosed areas with large windows for cruises to the Antarctic. A pool area without constant loud music etc. for relaxation would have been nice.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
It was great for the the cost.

Ship tip

Stay away from the Customer service desk as much as possible - how I don't know!
