Review summary

They cancelled two of the best ports and gave us $200 onboard spend, this wasn't the cruise I signed up for. Food was bad. The only good thing was being able to drink away our sorrows every night!

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Easy enough. Was onboard just after 12

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Terrible food. Garden Cafe was a joke. They had only one type of fish (Hoki) that was served every single day, one pork, possibly chicken and possibly a beef. Very cost cutting tactics with the food for a cruise that wasn't cheap! Food in the speciality restaurants was a bit better but not much. If I'd have paid £500 for this cruise I would expect cheap food with no variety but not when I paid over £1000pp.

Onboard Activities

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The band Upgrade were fantastic and I'm not a fan of rock. They can cover just about any artist you request. The Latin couple Duo Essenz were also really good and friendly. Always took time to chat with you.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Overall the staff were brilliant Don't expect to be able to order a drink in the Garden Cafe. Service in the restaurants a bit slow.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
No washy washy for the first 3 days and then when they did it was only at one entrance. Toilets were spotless.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
Good size with large shower but the most terrible loud noises from the crew door above every night from 3am onwards. Could hear our neighbours coughing too. Avoid if you can

Ship tip

Don't waste your money.

Thanks for taking the time to share your review of the Norwegian Star. Sorry to hear that you had an unpleasant experience.

The missing ports were due to a fault with the engine. It physically couldn't make it all the way to Santorini and Mykonos. I know they don't have to give us anything but they should have given us the opportunity to cancel. And Navychaps1, I did get out of the buffet when I could but sometimes this was the only option for lunch. I am a foodie so I guess this is not a cruise for someone like me.

I was recently on this itenerary on the Star. It was our best cruise out of 13 ever! Guess everyone see things differently. I would do it again in a heart beat. Also, get out of the buffet for different fare.

What was the reason given for missing the ports? Who's fault was it? The port authority? The weather? The ship/ cruise line?. You do know they don't have to give you anything except possibly port fees when you miss a port. It's a gesture of good will.
