Review summary

This was my first experience with NCL and probably the last. Price wise, they are always in the game, however, quality wise they are inferior in relation to Holland America, Princess and RCCL. Once on board, you become an object to be coerced into paying great prices for things which don't offer a comparative value. Paying $49.00 to play bingo seemed a bit much. Paying a hefty supplement to eat at specialty restaurants,, which might have offered decent food but with indifferent service, was not a bargain.

Overall the best part of the cruise were the ports visited, which included Cannes, Marseilles, Barcelona and Naples and the attention to handwashing, which was non stop.

The freedom of dining is a plus, although one doesn';t get to mingle with the other guests as much, with this format.

The lack of staff sophistication was very evident and the lack of smiles as well.

Oh yes, the entertainment on board was very good. There was a quartet of Spanish singers who were fabulous as well as a couple of circus performers from Russia who were also great.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Considering the low cost of European produce, food should have been fresher and tastier than it was.

Entertainment

The entertainment was outstanding and didn't really jibe with the other aspects of the cruise.

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
Generally the service and staff were fairly indifferent and just trying to upsell you on something. The sophistication of the staff was lacking, either because of language issues. lack of experience or poor treatment by management. There were of course, exceptions, but, in general, this was the case.

Ship Quality

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
The cabin was okay, although it was a handicapped cabin, which meant that the tv was beside the night table, making it very awkward to see from the bed. As well there weren't any night side table lights.
