Maybe I Forgot... by MrChocoholic

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Second time on this ship for only two main reasons. After my first cruise on NCL three years ago, I started collecting ship models, neglecting to obtain one of the Sky. After my voyage to Panama Canal on NCL Pearl last October/November, I was left with only one more night to move to the next tier on their loyalty program. My goals: going Silver and getting a model. My goal was to avoid unnecessarily expenses despite temptations brought on by the constant buzz thanks to their open bar. Brought my buddy Steve because he was desperately in need of a change of scene. He came along three years ago and we wanted to see if this ship has gone into the toilet. My ex-wife originally volunteered to come but her work interfered. Here's what we noticed: the smoke in the casino had...disappeared. There were fellow drinkers a-plenty but none seemed particularly smashed. Just a few ones, the young stuff learning how. No one was belligerent, some drunks spontaneously broke out into a song at inappropriate circumstances (Such as myself.) Bar service was faultless, friendly and relatively prompt considering the demand, and good mixes used for Bloody Marys and Mojitos were delicious. Pours were standard jiggers. Both shows at the Stardust were about expected, songs and dances served with cheese. The duo performing mostly acoustic guitar ballads and required bar songs ("Margaritaville") were adequate for setting a mood. Food abounded, and the quality was hit and miss as expected. The beef was pretty good, at least it showed up as ordered. The prime beef was tasty but full of fat and sinewy waste. Same with the 18 oz. steak, that lost a good 5 oz. in trimmed fat and sinew. The crab and fish "cake" was inedible. Tasteless, like mashed potatoes. The dal and the Indian lentil dish at the buffet were exceptional. Good, inventive salads there including a Mexican bean. I refrain from eating gray meat, so I can't testify to the burgers and meatloaf. I also stay from frozen fish, so that eliminated most of the seafood dishes. The smoked salmon was delicious. As usual the chocolate desserts were superb, particularly that Mexican brownie--dense and rich. The peach melba was an unexpected treat. The coconut cheesecake married two of my favorite things. On Great Stirrup Cay the salads were delicious and cold, and the chicken was hot, not spicy. Re: hamburgers. Not this time. Saving my burger craving for Guy Fieri's aboard Carnival. The beaches and newly-planted palms frame views of the sea. Unexpected: a hidden picnic area in the mangroves, surrounding a well. Safe place to smoke without bothering anyone. Cabin was barely adequate for two adults--I had originally planned to go solo which would have been perfect. Tiny beyond belief, 121 sq. ft. Stand up STRAIGHT shower. No problem with a/c, electrical or plumbing. Bed was fine, pillows puffy. Excellent steward with some impossible-to-pronounce Thai name. Kept my ice bucket filled and my towels replaced. Did our exercise walk in Nassau--uphill and downhill--on our way to the Watling Distillery. Fantastic! Loved that place to drink and smile at the softness of the scented tropical air. Visited an old graveyard to get in touch some  forebears with my name. On the way back to the ship we stopped to buy fresh conch salad from a boatman tied up along Woodes Rodgers Walk. Excellent! Sweet as sugarcane and hot as blazing as the sunset. An altogether wonderful day. (Dis)Embarkation is a snap, organized and getting through the line takes about 10 minutes. The tenders shuttle folks between the ship and the dock at Great Stirrup every few minutes. I love it, to me it's like they throw in a free boat ride. Look forward to another one of my dumbass videos.

We were worried about this... by PosLattitute

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Sky

We were worried about this being a booze cruise and dealing with the noise from the pool deck; our room was immediately beneath. To our surprise we had no problems. The was a lot of live music, which is the best! The app is a bit dated and the rooms aren't very nice. We had a mini suite and hated it - but we're headed so much fun everywhere else it doesn't matter. I put down two sepsis specify to the Sky. While old it is constantly being cleaned, they did a great job with that. Accept the fact that this ship does sport cruises and gives everyone a free drink package... let loose and have some fun: we did.

Loved this cruise by Ganaa

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

First time cruises, had great food, boundless drink, lots of fun, and plenty of entertainment. Didn't try specialty restaurants, but the main restaurants and the buffet food was more than enough and had good variety. Waiters were excellent, very friendly, especially in the Main dining room. We didn't get on this cruise just to eat, so we thought food was good enough, always had too much to eat.

Entertainment's good too, game shows and comedy bits were our favorite.

Our steward for the stateroom was good, cleaned the room twice a day, made us actually feel bad, people work so hard on that ship.

Definitely will go again.

Good but some improvements by sgsherid

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The best part of the cruise was that it was all inclusive. I really enjoyed the private island but Nassau was far too touristy. I think that the service in some of the restaurants could have been better. We had a dinner that lasted more than 2 hours. I also think the entertainment venues need to cater for more people or have more entertainment options happening at the same time. The sports bar seriously needs some improvements especially for football Sunday - larger tvs, better seating, bar menu. Overall, the cruise is worth the money but some improvements would be great.

Great short cruise! by Crazybaby1204

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This cruise was perfect for my husband and I to celebrate my birthday and our anniversary!  It was generally what we expected as we have both cruised before. The drinks were all included which made the drink process so much easier. You do not have to wait for a receipt- you take your drink and go!  My husband was disappointed that he got charged extra for a red bull but every other drink we wanted was free.  The schedule of drinks was awkward though. You could order alcohol at 7 am if you wanted to but when we wanted a soda at 3 am the only way to get one was by ordering room service!

This was our first time not having a balcony on a ship. Our ocean view room was on the 8th floor and I can honestly say that the balcony was not missed. We were barely in the room because the cruise was so short. Also, there was no option to rent movies in the room which is something we have done on longer cruises. Since we couldn't order room service while we rented a movie it wasn't really necessary for us to have a larger feeling room.  If I were with 3 or more people I would have felt clostrophibic. Also, the bathroom felt slightly bigger than a porta-potty. If bigger rooms are very important and drinks are not, you should consider Royal carribeans enchantment of the seas which offers a similar schedule of ports.

This was NOT a family cruise- at all. It may have been the time of the year but there were not many children or many activities for children to do unless you did shore excursions which were very expensive. We were so glad we didn't take our kids!  No one seemed to be too intoxicated, however, but I may just not have noticed or cared. If I had children with me, I may have paid more attention. Also, my husband and I were not asked for ID once. I'm 30 and he's 23 and we always get carded if we go out in New York. I think the assumption is that if you are on an open bar boat that you are of age to drink. I probably wouldn't bring teenage children on this ship.

The food was great in the dining room but the buffet was small and a little disappointing. Being able to eat food from the buffet outdoors was nice but the food was basic and the options were boring. If I had to cruise any longer than 4 days I would have been sick of the same tired options.  Prepare to spend an hour and a half in the dining room if you want all three courses.  If you want anything other than wine to drink with dinner it was a wait.

The ports were as expected. Freeport is not worth getting off the boat for. We went to senor frogs and had a good time but it was unnecessary because the drinks on the boat are free. Nassau is amazing and has so many things to do. It truly made the trip. We chose to go to Atlantis and do the aqua adventure and it was worth it for us!  If you like to gamble, Atlantis has an amazing casino. We won a lot there but lost it all on the boat! The private island day was perfect for laying out, relaxing, eating and drinking on the beach. The island was large and had public and private areas as well as some small shops(that only take cash). All of the food and drinks are included on the private island. However, the food is the same food as on the boat.  It would have been nice to have some sort of bahemian options for the island food instead of the basic hot dog and burger type of food. The boat to the island is a little rocky so if you get seasick be prepared.

The ships entertainment was fine for a short cruise. We had fun at the game shows and we won twice during deal or no deal!  Overall we had a wonderful experience and the positives outweighed any of the negatives!  If it were our first cruise we may have been disappointed but we know what to expect and it was exactly what we were looking for- a short getaway for a couple to enjoy together!

Not so great by FamilyFun6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

There was always issues with the ladies restrooms in the public areas not working. Felt the entertainment could have been much better in the smaller lounges. Had to deal with customer service 2 different times for minor things and they were quit rude. At one time even arguing with me when I asked them for the insert regarding the private island that was in the daily paper. They said their wasnt one and I said my sons room got one and they kept telling me that he didnt when I saw it with my own eyes. They finally called housekeeping and they brought me one. Was it that big of a deal that they had to argue with me and basically call me a liar. Liked the open bar on the Sky and the Freestyle dining, but not in such a hurry to try this cruiseline again.

GREAT SHIP. GREAT TIME, GREAT SERVICE,GREAT TIME by liicetea

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I been on this ship 3 times, each time gets better, the all inclusive drinks is an excellent idea, this just eliminates a bar bill at the end of the trip.

Once i got to the port, we had a very short line thru security and waiting to check in was a breeze. The Main Dinning room was open so we had lunch before heading to our room to drop off our luggage. If you have carry on, you can leave it at the Captain Cooks Bar.  The Room was ready by 1:30 pm and then we headed up to the pool deck to enjoy the music and  relaxing before we departed Miami. Music, food and drinks all make this boat worth the 4 days to get away.

This Trip was rerouted due to the Hurricane Matthew so we went to Key West,  one day at sea(would preferred to be docked) and last day in Nassau Bahamas.  Some people were disappointed about skipping the other ports but SHIPS Happens.  Mother nature at work..

The crew were very friendly and always there to help you,

The entertainment was great with non stop activities all day and night.

Live Bands, Live SHOWS, Live Comedian  all making this ship a fun place to vacation and have FUN!

If you go to Nassau, get off the ship, there are plenty of tours available or you can take a 10 minute walk to the local beach.

Happy sailing.

The Good: 1. Open Bar 2.... by bigdogmarco

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Sky

The Good: 1. Open Bar 2. Steam Room 3. Boarding, Embarkation, Disembarkation Time The Bad: 1. The ships layout is absurd, it doesn't flow and is of poor design. 1A. The night club seems to have been an afterthought where they took a small auditorium, dimmed the lights and call it club. The tiny dance floor is basically a floor level stage where you get to dance for the people seated in rows of seats pointed towards the stage/dance floor. 1B. The rooms are tiny, even the balcony rooms. Bathrooms are also small. 2. The food is nothing to write home about. First cruise that I've been on where I lost weight. Part of the problem myself and other guest had was finding a place to eat late at night after taking advantage of the open bar. I searched and searched for an open place to eat until stumbling onto what appeared to be a closed dining room with the lights out. While walking through the dining room to go elsewhere I saw an NCL employee and asked for food. She served my buddy and I food in the unlit restaurant. No one else knew to the place was actually open and we found it by accident. 3. Customer service leaves much to be desired before and during the cruise. NCL needs to send the entire organization to basic hospitality retraining. Will I cruise on the NCL Sky again? Yes but under protest. The group that I cruise with voted and NCL beat out our usual cruise line of choice Carnival. I voted for Carnival, but the open bar trumped all the negatives of this ship in the mind of my friends. Carnival is a party ship with an available drink package, NCL Sky is a floating open bar that is light on the party. My 2 cents.

Honeymoon Cruise by Cruiser67350924

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

My husand and I took this cruise because we were on a budget and also new to cruising. Getting on and off the ship was a quick and easy process. Unfortunately, due to hurricane season our itinerary got changed and we did not get to see Freeport or Great Stirrup Cay. Instead, we went to Key West which was a ton of fun for us and Nassau. I was not impressed with Nassau. The moment you get off the ship people are beging to braid your hair, give you a ride, or sell something to you. Once you get out of the port area though the locals are friendly enough. The ship itself was small and a bit out of date, but there was always something to do! We checked out the arcade and it was alot of fun, but some of the games were broken. The comedian on board was really funny and we decided to watch him 2 nights in a row. The reggae band on the ship was AMAZING and we tried to see them everytime we had a chance. The room we had was just an oceanview and nothing fancy. I will say- the bathrooms are SMALL and they only give you a shampoo and body wash pump so bring your own personal care. There was no hairdryer in our room and I didn't anticipate that so make sure you bring your own hair dryer. Our room service left alot to be desired- even after leaving a $20 tip the second day we would come back much later in the day to find the room was not made up. Nothing we couldn't handle, but it would have been nice to come back to a clean room with fresh towels after being in the pool.  The pool was very full with kids and the hot tubs were nearly impossible to find a spot. If you want to spedn time in either I suggest you look for a different ship. The food was really good in the cafe areas, but who's complaining when there's endless food at all hours. The french restaurant was amazing and had delicious food. The steak house was good as well! The drinks were also free and pretty strong for all inclusive. They changed up the bar menu everyday for featured drink of the day, but you could always get any drink. What we loved about this cruise? We could do whatever we want whenever we wanted.  If you're looking for a quick getaway that won't break the bank, has decent food, good drinks then this cruise is for you! It wasn't the top of the line, but the entertainers certainly made sure we had a good time. I love the free at sea experience and would go with Norwegian again, just a bigger ship.

First cruise by Mirakrye

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This was my first cruise and it was so much fun!

First prepping and the cabin... I heavily overpacked (followed online checklists). I expected to be sleeping in a closet but the porthole room was surprisingly bigger than I'd hoped! The shower was also very comfortable and that was also a surprise. I'm a fairly heavy person and I had a roommate.

The Sky is a little dated but fit with the home port. Think "Miami Vice". Everything was super clean and I saw staff continuously working to keep it so. Our steward was awesome and once I complimented him on the first towel animal, we had one for each bunk..twice per day!

Perks... Traveling with family who booked the owners suite, we got to be included as a whole party ( 1 interior,1 porthole, and the suite guests) when their "owners suite" perks were heaped upon them. Priority everything, room snacks, free water, reserved seating, etc!

Food and alcohol... The buffet is pleasant and has many choices. About your average buffet style restaurant. The deck barbecues were excellent. The seated restaurants were all very nice. Extremely attentive service and encouraged to try more than 1 dish if you can't decide. The food was good, not great, but an experience in luxury! The mixed drinks were pretty good. I recommend the Moscow mule or anything from the Mojito bar. Unlimited, but you can only carry away 2 per person at a time from the bars. Servers are 90% friendly but at times very busy.

Ports... Nassau was nice to experience but it was very dirty and the people are seriously aggressive with selling you anything. Everyone calls you by "Beautiful" and they get offensive if they can't talk you into buying anything. Very crowded flea market area was like walking the gauntlet! They will ALWAYS come down in price tho. Saying that you don't have cash gets you an offer to be escorted to the ATM with whatever you glanced-at-object in hand! Fresh coconut to drink is SERIOUSLY good and $1.

Freeport and the private Island were canceled for us and we had a sea day (Think this is the cause of my 10day sea-leg dizziness after the trip)

Key west was the replacement stop for our canceled Freeport. It was pretty nice. Felt like Tybee Island. Palm trees, trinkets, and laid back atmosphere.

Embarkation was smooth, tho disembarking was a little messy. I got yelled at by security for trying to photograph the ship I just spent 4 days on. Traffic jam at the elevators, which are required if you have more than 1 suitcase per person, to leave the port.

We had very rough seas at night and visiting the owners cabin felt like you were surfing, although nobody got seasick thankfully!

We had rooms booked for fall 2017 before we left. Looking forward to it!

Just missed Matthew by Besties

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I would recommend this cruise for people that like to drink alcohol. And not for people with children. I spent the weekend with my best friends and our husbands. The only disappointment that we had was we didn't get the special price for our special dinner. We made reservations but no one said we would need to pay ahead .  None of us would have ordered appetizers. Or dessert or two sides. If we were told up front. The waitress said it was all included. And it wasnt

My best friend and I... by HannahWernecke

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Sky

My best friend and I really enjoyed the Norwegian Sky for a girls getaway! Ship wasn’t a 100% spotless, but it was perfect for a short cruise, and the included drink package bumped it up to a 5 star review from me. The food and entertainment were better than I expected (because we got a sensational deal on the price). I’m thinking about booking the Sky again to go with my husband now that it’s sailing to Cuba.

It was good enough! by Faithie

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

It really is a good deal with all inclusive unlimited beverages! However the cruise staff was not very friendly. They seemed unmotivated and agitated often. Our room attendant insisted on entering our room while we got dressed to tidy it... we declined his offer. The wait times in dining rooms were unbelievable. But, for a weekend girls trip, we insisted on a good time.

Terrible prepackaged food and everything besides booze costs extra! by Ohian

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This ship does not offer much to do that is included in the price.  Buffet food was prepackaged/ proceesed food and every buffet was the same food for each day.  Never docked at a beach. Always docked at an area with a shipyard type view. On the second stop you either had to pay for a taxi or walk 5  miles to even get to a beach. Ship charged $50 just for a couple to play bingo.  All shops on board extremely overpriced and didn't even open until 5-6 pm everyday.  So if you actually needed something you were out of luck until evening. Went to the fancy restaraunt on board one night and food was aweful and you were served about 2Tbs. of each item.  The only postive I can say is that the staff were nice.  Otherwise it was a boring and disapointing trip.

Not sure what to expect with the Sky, but we were very pleased when all was said and done. It is a smaller ship by today's standards, but we have taken many small ships and were very surprised with the open bar, didn't wait much at all. We give the Sky a yes please will do it again soon. Travel Happy my friends. 😎
