Review summary

After we bought our passport cards for Nassau cruise Norwegian change it or "up graded us" to Cuba but failed to tell us we would need a passport book. So they literally left us on the docks and refuse to refund us anything. To top it off this was our honeymoon cruise! NEVER will we ever use Norwegian. They say it is our fault for not knowing and would not do anything but abandon us on the docks!!! Needless to say we are furious. Please watch for the upcoming news story.

So sorry you had such a negative experience on such a momentous occasion.

Passport cards have limited use, which I believe is just travel by land to Canada and Mexico. You should have known the distance and questioned why the passport card is cheaper than a passport book. When I applied for my passport, I did due diligence and researched the difference. Ignorance of the law does not excuse you nor does it become Norwegians fault.

Sorry that happened, but the passport book is accepted everywhere

Information like that should be on the Cruise line Web site, Government Web site, and numerous other places. Sorry, but I find it hard to feel too bad for individuals that do not do the nessasary research before travelling to foreign countries. It is a hard lesson.

Congrats & so sorry to hear that you missed your cruise but truthfully speaking even if they would have allowed you to board the ship once you arrived in Cuba you wouldn't have been able to get off as you go through customs each & every time you get off the ship & you MUST show your passport book each time.

Sorry you missed your cruise, however, the required documents for cruising to Cuba are clearly listed on the website. It is the responsibility of each cruiser to verify which documents are needed.

Yikes, I've always had good experiences with NCL. Sorry you had that experience, esp for your honeymoon cruise! Make sure to check destinations for every vacation from now on.

They sent an Email out and posted it on many cruise forums as well as thier website Feb 7th, which stated a deadline to notify them by Feb 17th or they would cancel your cruise. Did they cancel it and turn you away? I would find in writing where they state that if you didn't receive the email to call them. Might be worth a shot to see if you can get a refund.

Sorry that happened. But any cruise line would have done the same thing. Without a refund. Unfortunately it is our responsibility to know all requirements for leaving country. I believe it is a decision by customs or homeland security that you can not sail without proper documents.
