DO NOT, and I mean DO NOT purchase anything jewelry. The ship will report your purchase to CUSTOMS and you will be put on a list. Prior to disembarkation, you will need to present yourself to CUSTOMS to discuss the purchase you made on the ship in international waters. I was FURIOUS!!! I will never again make a purchase aboard ship. Prior to this episode, I have NEVER had a ship, any ship, turn over a list of names of passengers to CUSTOMS of purchases made in international waters. This process made me late for a disembarkation excursion and changed my whole view of the cruise. Sadly, I purchased CRUISE NEXT CREDITS during the cruise that I would gladly return after this experience.

I have a friend that had this happen on Royal Caribbean, she spent over $10,000. I think it is mandatory that so much money be reported and I am sure that is the government wanting that before the cruise company. I am sorry for the inconvenience you had, it’s frustrating I’m sure, I agree with you, just avoid purchasing items that highly cost on cruise ships to avoid hassle 😊

Why would you be reported to customs for buying jewellery? Strange one. I’ve bought things like bag and jewellery on a ship and never had an issue. I had to go somewhere at the airport to claim my tax back on my purchases, that was it.
