Overall I will not be going on the Norwegian Jewel again. While the standard for food may be lower in Australia, I don’t think cold food and food that was cooked hours ago is acceptable to be served anywhere, whether it’s the buffet or main dining rooms.
Embarkation
2 out of 5
Very long embarkation, very different from previous cruises in the States.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
1 out of 5
Tried all the main dining rooms, bars, specialty restaurants and the food is not fresh and temperature is very cold compared to what it should be. Buffet is also not fresh, never had food like this before. I understand staff needs to prepare a lot of food for thousands of passengers ahead of time, but eating cold food that is wilted and not fresh is not acceptable.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
Not as many activities as other cruises, no afternoon tea. Also, shopping (tax and duty free) was stopped the second day of our cruise due to poor planning on the staff’s end: they announced that we were sailing in domestic waters and not international waters so people could only buy $35 usd worth of essentials like medicine, food, etc for the rest of the cruise. Cruise is not the same without shopping. It was the ship’s first time traveling this route so they probably didn’t know, but definitely should have planned ahead of time because it’s their first time traveling this route.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Overall daily performances were really great
Service and Staff
2 out of 5
Have cruised several times before with different companies and places in the States but this was the first cruise with Norwegian and in Australia, and service was not good, especially towards our family. The staff seemed to think we were Asian-Australian when in fact we are not, and didn’t pay attention to us. Quite blatant racism and we experienced on many occasions with hotel staff, dining staff, etc.
We disembarked the Jewel on 3rd Oct, so probably had the same staff and they couldn't do enough for you. I agree the food could be better but for what we paid we thought we got a good deal.
