Review summary

This was my first experience with cruising although I went with 5 other people who have been on numerous cruises. We were on the Jade leaving from Venice to the Greek Islands. I did enjoy the Freestyle dining and overall the food was very good. The specialty restaurants were expensive and our experience with the one we went to on the last evening (Steak House) was extremely disappointing. It cost $50 per couple, the steaks were horrible, and the service was really slow. Part of the problem was several people ordered several appetizers but for not being full, it was really much slower than the free restaurants. The coordination for leaving the ship on the islands was very well organized. The excursions offered I did not participate in since they were sooo over priced! We were able to get transportation (bus, train) for around 2 to 6 Euros to the sites we wanted to see. The only activity we participated in was bingo and it cost $39 to play. This was a theme - overpriced for anything not included with the cost of the cruise.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Freestyle dining was good, kinda got tired of the food choices by last evening and went to Steak House. Overpriced, bad steak, and poor service. Would not pay $50 plus $8 for adding a lobster. The Pacific Room dining was lovely and breakfast there was with service, not cafeteria style, but only open for 2 hours.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
The variety of activities offered was very limited. The cost of even bingo was offputting ($39). The music at the pool was so loud you could not even visit. There did not seem to be much to do if you did not go to the pool which was so crowded. We are not gamblers but what we did, we found the machines were too tight and we quickly ended our entertainment in the Casino. We met an activity instructor who was wonderful but we found nothing to participate in.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The bartenders at the wine bar and the pool were really personable and remembered names, drinks, and gave fabulous service. Paola the receptionist at the Alizar Restaurant was helpful in getting us out in time for the show.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship was kept clean and they were very aggressive with clean hands and recommendations for preventing diseases/spread. I did not enjoy the pool area on the days at sea since it was too small for the number of people wanting to be there. You were packed in like sardines and need to get up to save seats very early in the morning.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Had a balcony room. Service was great - Jonathan was awesome! Would recommend this type, had bathtub, couch, and plenty of storage.

Pros: Coordination of getting off the ship, food in the Freestyle dining, entertainment show with acrobats/flying silks, staff.

Cons: Cost involved with everything once on ship. Wine, drinks, excursions, even $39 to play bingo was dissapointing.

Recommends Norwegian Jade? Yes!
