Review summary

000000969213446I would like to take the time out to say that I never ever take the time out of my day to tell any company that I am upset with the service. So that will just go to show that I am not in any way excited about NCL nor would I recommend NCL. For starters my husband and I were excited to get away on what we thought was going to be an amazing cruise ship. I mean it is NCL which we thought was suppose to cream of the crop. It was our 1st anniversary and to be honest we needed some time alone.

The 1st day on the cruise was fine very rocky but that is nothing that NCL cant control that. As for the staff now, that is something I feel like NCL should be able to control. I understand this is a older boat so you may not have the most seasoned staff on board that is fine but my husband and myself are very keen on service. When we sat down to eat at the dinner more then once we just sat there at the table at least 15 mins before being greeted by our waiter. We didn't even get any bread or water, I mean thats pretty basic and I don't think its something I should have to ask for. What we did notice is the staff would run of other guest but drag there feet for us. Now the first 2 times it happen my husband and I kinda just brushed it off, but we noticed it kept happening in both of the main dinning rooms the Magenta and the Grand Pacific. The Orchid Garden on the other hand was great our servers were great, my husband is not an Asian food fan like myself but that was the only place we could get good service. The buffet was gross we found lip stick on the glasses more then once, and the food was not good.

As for the room, I was very excited to go on my first cruise and see the towel animals. But I had to complain to get that, I literally got 1 towel animal on a 10 day cruise. Mean while other guest were showing me all other the cool animals they got in there room. I would past the other rooms and see the animals on there bed, but I guess my husband and I were not worthy of getting a towel animal. Now like I said we did get a towel animal but of all the animals in the world it was a gorilla and a mouse. A gorilla...really?

As for the bartenders at O'Sheehan's, I will have to say that Daniel and Thomas are the absolute best. If it wasn't for them I  would have called NCL Corp. once we got to PR. These two bartenders and the manger for O'Sheehan's made NCL bearable. As for other bartends on this ship the drinks were either nasty and literally undrinkable, or just ok. Now other bars that we went to my husband would literally stand there and get ignored. Now we had the same issue that we had in the dining room, running for other guess and not wanting to help us. Do you see anything wrong with this? Is that fair? What should we have done get treated fairly?

I definitely don't think that we paid NCL money to be treated like the bottom of the barrel, as if we didn't belong on the ship. NCL does not seem like the cruise line for me, some of the guest were not the best. While at O' Sheehan's one guest made an unsavory comment about "dumb monkeys" while my husband were at the bar, that was little hard to stomach. It was to the point that the bartender stop talking to her due to the racists comment. Her husband I guess was embarrassed with the comment and they left not too long after. There was another incident at O'Sheehan's when another guest decided to try and the my husband chair as he was leaning on it. I have never been so disgusted in my life and apparently we were not the only one that felt this way because the vibe at the bar changed the bartender said that the guest we were talking to before the incident go very upset and left.

When we booked this cruise we were asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. We told the sales person it was our 1st year anniversary, gave him the date, January 12th. He told us we would get a cake and some wine, which we thought was nice. We noticed a few days before our anniversary we saw a room door cover is happy birthday decorations. My husband and I said wow that was nice and thought full I wonder what they will do for us. January 12th came and went and we didn't get not even a phone call. But I will say we did get a phone call to take pictures and spend some money on a photo shoot. So my husband was upset and decided to call the reception and let them know they forgot about us. So lucky us got a chocolates and champagne on January 14th. Yet again when are treated like the bottom of barrel.

Another issue we had the day after leaving Tartola the TV did not work from 10am until 9pm. Normally I would not care but my husband and I come I on this vacation to relax. The  receptionist suggested we shop around or do activites on the boat. But we did not come on vacation to run around and do different things. My husband and I a million and one things going on while we are home, hence the reason we just wanted to relax. We find chilling out in the room watching movies is the best way for us to unwind. But we could not relax or enjoy ourself because there was nothing relaxing for us to do. Nether one of us can sleep with out tv in the background so I couldn't even take a nap. I big cruise line like this should not have issues dumb issues like this. What we did notice there were a million sales that day, so we figured NCL wanted us out of the room to spend more money. The thing that bother me the most is the receptionist said all of the TVs on the boat were not working, but when we went to O'Sheehan's the TV was working just fine.

All in all I have to say NCL was not the cream of the crop, I would have to give this cruise a solid 1 star. And the one star is Danny, Thomas and the manager from O'Sheehan's. If it wasn't for them I would have called complaining the Day we got in PR. I have been to many resorts that made me feel like I never wanted to leave. NCL on the other hand I could not wait to leave, I could not wait to eat some good food, and get treated like a person. I am so upset with this trip and unfortunately I will never again go on another NCL cruise.

I cannot believe the "dumb issues" you are complaining about. Really? towel animals? decorations on your door? how will your husband ever get over it? and you could find nothing relaxing to do? that is not the fault of anyone but you. It's quite clear that NOTHING will make you happy!! this is the most inane comment I have ever wasted time reading.

we celebrated our 20th Anniversary on our last cruise. I PURCHASED the paper good and the room steward decorated it. The Travel agent had a cake sent to our room also.

sometimes when you tip bartenders with some cash, you get special treatment. It's just the way it is.

Not sure where you heard or thought that NCL is 'the cream of the crop, but hey are far from it... still enjoy being on their ships after 4 cruises with them.

Sorry your first cruise went bad.   It sounds like you would have been happier on a premium cruise line like Celebrity.  I have cruised with most of the major lines and I rate NCL bottom of the line,  I even prefer Carnival food and service over NCL.

If you ever try a cruise again I would suggest you go with a premium or specialty high line cruise.

sorry you had a bad experience. But you can not blame NCL for rude guests.

I am so sorry that you experience this type of treatment. I would voice my concerns in writing to NCL and cruise complaints. true who ever you book through. should have made sure your special day was recognized.

Some of these things are inexcusable. The cake and wine though probably isn't normally provided. Did you book through a travel agent? Sometimes they will order these things, but it sounds like they didn't. Cake, decorations etc are usually purchased. If the ship decorated the door you saw someone purchased it.

I'd have to say, about the worst another person can make me feel is when I see them treating other strangers better than they treat me. I know how that feels. travelling solo a lot I get it a lot
