Review summary

We sailed with 2 brothers and sister and their spouses. We had a good time together. We were disappointed with the cruise itself though. We bought the ultimate beverage package, but bottled water and cappuccino was an extra charge. Also there were upcharges in the main dining rooms. Thought that the food could have been better. They also held promotional meetings in the common areas, so it was hard to relax in the pub nearby.

The cabin steward was excellent, the room was made up daily and was ready for us when we returned at night. Room was a little small though for two adults.

Perhaps NCL Marketing Dept screwed up on this one and should've used "Wicked Awesome Beverage Package" because people just love to literally hold onto the word "Ultimate" (and by definition it does mean the best, final, top of the line so technically the word is misleading but jeepers) instead of understanding its a catchy Marketing term

carnival actually charges for certain steaks & the lobster as well. & most cruise lines charge for bottled water even with the beverage package.

The bottled water and specialty coffees are clearly mentioned as not part of the UBP so that should not have been a surprise. "Up charge" in the main dining room occurs if you want to order a better cut of steak or make it a surf & turf .. some passengers actually appreciate the opportunity to get higher quality meats and seafood without going to a specialty venue..... which is why NCL offers that. NCL listened to past surveys and gave people that option. It is technically not an "up charge".... an excursion or a balcony or a premium drink is also not an "up charge".... it's a chance for individuals to do things that others may not want to.

We are booked on the Gem I know if you want the specialty restaurants you pay extra and unless it's like Carnival I know in the main dining room on Carnival you are able to order a lobster or specialty steak that is extra but thats all
