Christmas Week At Sea

Sail Date: December 25, 2011

Reviewed: 4 years ago

Traveled As: Family (young children)

Room Type: Inside

A very clean newish ship, that had on the most part wonderful people working on board, that were very friendly and seemed happy in their job, which made us happy! The Captain, liked to get up and jam with the band, which was a riot. that was special! We paid extra to have use of the spa area, it was so crowded due to bad weather that it was not worth the money, no place to even sit in there. Wish the kids Club was more kid friendly, disappointing for older kids!

Pros: The Crew Members

Cons: The Weather and lack of Christmas feeling!

Recommends Norwegian Gem? Yes!

Food and Dining
Hit or Miss with the main dining rooms that were included in the price. One day it would be fabulous, next day very mediocre. Cagney's, though very pricey to bring the whole family, is outstanding, Le Bistro was good but not wonderful and the Italian restaurant, our waiters were so nice and fun, made up for the so so meal.
Cabin / Stateroom
Tiny room we knew it would be
Children's Programs
They tired NCL has never had the best kid program, we were aware of this. when your kid is 12, it is an in between age, so it never worked when they paired the 12 yr olds with the 6, 7, and 8, even 9 year olds. Arts and crafts for active boys is never a good option, wish they had more sports and such available
Entertainment
The main Variety shows, we hate to admit, were pretty disappointing. Second city is entertaining however, and the Man from Mars, his show made up for all the other shows we sat through, that was talent and was just in a different league than the song and dance shows. We finally saw the Cruise ship director the last evening for the first time.
Ship Quality
Service and Staff
Our cabin steward, Abdul, was the nicest, hardest working guy, we adored him, he always was a step ahead of anything we needed! Bravo to him!!
