Our NYE cruise was an enjoyable experience because all in all, we were just happy to get away for a few days and disconnect. However, the embarkation port and this ship/crew were below average in a number of areas which would preclude us from this particular itinerary/ship in the future.
Embarkation
3 out of 5
Not a fan of the Manhattan terminal and it's location.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
2 out of 5
The highly touted freestyle dining experience was poorly executed by the staff. They seemed to be overwhelmed by the vast numbers of hungry cruisers trying to sit for dinner at whatever time they chose...which was seemingly the same time as everyone else!
I expect consistency aboard cruises and the food was far from consistent. I ordered the same breakfast every morning (Eggs Benedict and bacon) and it came out cooked differently every day.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
There was a lot to do on-board, and we especially enjoyed the comedians and the After Midnight show.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
The two stage shows we saw were great! The DJs were just mediocre, but there wasn't an actual "club" which didn't sit well with most of the folks we spoke with (hard time keeping the kids out).
Children's Programs
no kids
Service and Staff
2 out of 5
Outside of a couple "stars", the overall service was well below what we are used to on other cruise lines. Inconsistency was the main theme again. Room steward's lack of attention to detail, waiters seeming like they didn't want to be there, etc.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Nice design and for the most part clean.
Cabin / Stateroom
1 out of 5
We started in this cabin but had to move at the end of the cruise (~ day 7?) because of a bed bug infestation. I will say no more.
Where did you get bed bugs out of a poor port??? It’s NYC the porters are from there. I loved the Escape and am going back again in November. Don’t take too much stock in a first time cruisers review. We loved the ship and Bermuda
