Review summary

My first NCL cruise and most likely my last. The free drink package was nice but it's hard to use because getting service at the over crowded understaffed bars is difficult. Overall it was a nice ship and most of the staff I interacted with were friendly even if they were obviously over worked and stretched thin. We sailed at full capacity so it was 7 days of wait in line and 7 days of the staff letting everyone do what they wanted, even if that meant cutting in line. People who the bar tenders saw shove ahead of everyone at the bar were always rewarded with their drink first. Most of the specialty dining was pretty good, I ate a wasabi several times because it was good quality and a great value. Cagneys however was one of the worst steak houses I've ever been too, do not waste your money there. First you can't call yourself a steak house and not have a flat plate to Pittsburg a steak on. Then the steak was just average, like what you would expect from a Logan's steak house or any lower end chain. The side dishes however were bordering on the inedible, the baked potato was the only think you could eat. The macaroni and cheese was disgusting, a .25 box of off brand with powdered cheese would have been much better. If you do go on the Epic make sure you aren't going to a tender port. With their lack of organization and communication and the tender staffs complete apathy it becomes one of the most painful and time consuming events in your life. And this is another area where rude aggressive people are knowingly rewarded, the staff makes no effort to load or unload people in a first come first serve manner. They just stand with a blank stare and allow everyone to shove to the front of the line. My storeroom was decent, small but it worked. My balcony was great. It was bigger than balconies on other ships and was the only relief I found from long lines and rude people. There will be plenty of people who don't know any better or who were the ones shoving there way to the front of every line who will disagree with me. But, I feel i was cheated as far as the value of the overall cruise and I spent so much time in lines with rude inconsiderate people and apathetic staff that it almost ruined my trip. I look back on every cruise I've taken with sadness because it's over but this one I look back with sadness of how unsatisfying everything ended up being. NCL may like to talk about their freestyle cruising but freestyle shouldn't mean no organization or that everyone is allowed to do whatever they like at the expense of those few on board with manners. There are many specific horror stories I could write about that I just don't feel like going into from boarding 3 hours late because the cruise before us was a "holy ship" cruise and they destroyed the place and took forever to clean up apparently. As well as arriving to port on embarkation day to find hundreds of 20 somethings hanging around who just got off the ship and many crying because apparently something like 46 were arrested after the cruise. Or about the hour and a half wait for tenders at times. Or when you are waiting for things like tenders they just heard you from one place to another with no communication at all. No one tells you how long you will be waiting or what the hold up is. Many people waited for 45 minutes with no information and then left. I would not recommend NCL or at least not the Epic to anyone. There are better cruises out there, keep looking.
